  • Great read

Where to start? Did I like this book? Yes. Am I annoyed that it's the first in a series and I can't get the second one yet? Oh, yes. Well written, with flawed and sympathetic characters, where the main character is allowed to make mistakes, misjudgements, and simply be wrong. She is also allowed to be right, to be couragous, innocent, and to grow. And so are the other charcters. Not a single one is perfect. Simply put, I believed I would like this book, and I stayed up until one in the morning to read it, and was a bit useless at work the following day. But it was worth it.

  • Imaginative but problematic

Asperfell is incredibly exciting and imaginative, drawing the reader in. Unfortunately, the author perpetuates stereotypes (the women sew! the men are strong in the garden!), her heroine falls into an emotionally unhealthy relationship with a toxic individual, and generally sets everything back one hundred years. For a novel published in 2020, this felt stifling.

  • May I rest with this book

Incredibly well written book. I don’t know how to fully capture my thoughts; however, this book has exceeded any and all expectations. I’m so glad I stumbled onto this book. Anywho... I highly recommend if you love books with intrigue, strong characters, friendships and development of background, plot and characters. Just incredible.

  • Entrancing

I especially liked the start of this. I thought it was very well done; the characters are appealing and setting is interesting, and all offered up with a sense of tension, knowing things were about to break. I was left wanting more. Whereas the time in Asperfell itself was at first less compelling. But it does improve and the reluctant romance is neatly built. The end felt a little rushed, but I definitely feel involved now and so I am looking forward to the next instalment.

  • Don’t regret but not again

This was an alright read, I certainly don’t regret reading it and might read the sequel but I don’t think I would go back to it again. It was relatively genre defying but still managed to give a few unwanted cliches for a book this full of potential to be a huge hit.
