    ***I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS STORY***

Set in 1890s Texas, It touched my heart and brought me to tears several times as if they were real people. The Christian theme woven throughout, like a rope binding comfort to my soul, was perfect for the days we are living in. "Got a verse for me, Preach?" was a favorite phrase of mine throughout the story. Faith Quote: "Romans 8:31. 'If God be for us, who can be against us?"' Tea Quote: "I'd hoped to sweet talk my way into the room with tea and cookies." -Josephine I received a complimentary eBook through Netgalley and the Publisher for an honest review. All opinions are my own without further compensation or expectation. Karen Witemeyer is such a sweet and genuine person. You can connect with her online as I have and be blessed by her tender heart.

    Devotion

To me this story is about devotion. Devotion to your country, your fellow soldiers, your horse!, your honor, your duty, your family and your woman/man Matthew started out as a Captain in the Army. However, he was greatly disillusioned at Wounded Knee and needed to find something else that would fill his need to help others in an honorable way so Hanger's Horsemen was born. He & 3 other men from his Army days took on jobs that helped the people not helped by law enforcement & other types of jobs. When one of his men is seriously wounded, he finds a doctor and wouldn't you know, it's a woman! Dr. Jo is a feisty gal who is used to having people not wanting her to treat them because she's a woman. Matthew doesn't care about that. I loved the two of them together. They were such opposites but fit together so well. Matthew so quiet, yet filled with honor & duty. Josie so cheerful, yet determined and pushy! When her brother is kidnapped, she asks The Horsemen to rescue him. It's dangerous but they don't hesitate and of course, Josie gets involved. She's a darn good doctor! There are a lot of outlaw shootouts and strategy in this book but also a lot of sweet redemption! I loved every page! I also loved the great love between a man and his horse that was shown in this story. This author writes so realistically! I wait so anxiously for each book!

    A commanding love story

This was a delightful, sweet western romance. There was just the right amount of action, drama, humour and romance. Matt is an ex-military man, a mercenary and a man continually on the move. Meanwhile Jo is a doctor, a pacifist and eager to establish herself as a female physician in her small town. They both felt a strong and undeniable attraction to one another and when they join forces to rescue her brother, their self erected walls start to crumble. I enjoyed the message of hope and the reminder to keep trusting in the Lord which was woven throughout the story. The opportune verses that Preach shared were also great. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

    Witemeyer never fails!

Karen Witemeyer never disappoints! She is a master at writing a well-crafted story with engaging characters, historically accurate settings and thoughtfully integrated faith lessons. Her books make you want to keep reading, and when you are done you only want more. At Love’s Command, book one in her new Hanger’s Horseman series is no exception! At Love’s Command is the first in a new series and introduces a unique band of mercenaries called Hanger’s Horseman. The Horsemen are four ex-cavalry officers whose experiences at the tragedy of Wounded Knee caused them to decide that “killing is off the menu.” They champion the cause of justice and avoid taking lives as much as possible. In At Love’s Command God brings together two wonderful people, who both decided that romantic love just wasn’t for them. Little did they dream of the plans God had in store. Even after they meet, their path to romance is far from smooth, but their journey helps them learn to trust and surrender to God and one another, which is just what these two stubborn and independent individuals needed. In addition to the lovely romance between Matthew Hanger and Dr. Josephine Burkett this book also introduces the supporting characters, who will feature in the rest of the series. They are Matt Hanger’s Horsemen and his family, the charming young Mark Wallace, fiercely loyal Luke “Preach” Davenport and stoic Jonah Brooks. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing how love will come to each of these men and ‘meeting’ the ladies who will be their happily ever after. I received an early copy from the publisher. A positive review was not required and all opinions expressed here are my own.

Beautiful love story with threads of suspense!

Dr. Josephine Burkett is an intelligent force to be reckoned with. She's plucky, fierce, quick-witted, and the perfect match for a worthy gentleman. Josephine meets a less-than-perfect Matthew Hangar, who's heart is hidden behind his brawn and mettle. Who might be a perfectly imperfect match for Josephine. Karen Witemeyer has caused me to giggle, cheer, and sigh. All the qualities that my avid-reader person craves in a novel. And, to go on the record, Matthew Hanger just might be more swoon-worthy than the Archer men, but don't "tell" on me, please. There's more to come in the series, and I'm looking forward to reading them, the cast of characters comprising Hanger's Horseman are both memorable and loveable. I'll be stalking Amazon for the release date for those books. Find out for yourself, and join in on the fun! I received the book from the publisher but was under no obligation to post nor write a review.
