    Bad dog to best friend

This was an incredible story. We also have two dogs, one who is battling brain cancer right now. Pets are hard work and require unshakable dedication. We also read tons of books and lots of blogs when we were training our first dog. We employed all of the techniques that you talk about in your book including hand signals. We also taught our dogs to "go do it " on command as well as putting a set of jingle bells on the back door knob so they could let us know when they needed to go out. Both of our dogs are boxer / shepherd mix the oldest more"boxer" the younger , more " shepherd". I had to chuckle at the story about the ball that popped. And yes I did have tears rolling down my face when you described Dakota's trip to the Ocean. Thank you sharing your story of Dakota.

    Bad dog to best friend

What a great read...4 paws up. It's the heart warming story of the authors ups and downs with the retraining of a "broken" dog from the local animal shelter. And yes Dakota was a big challenge....house breaking...abandonment issues and of course the interaction between Dakota and the authors established dog gypsy rose. With some great training tips thrown in for good measure. I love how she can't emphasize enough that reaseach needs to be done before taking in any dog. Is the breed right for you and your lifestyle? Are you willing to put the effort into training. After all to many innocent victims of our disposable society are abandoned and euthonised due to human failures
