Loved every single moment I was reading it!

The continuation of Elena and Greg's story is finally here. I've been waiting to find out what happens next in their love story because that ending in Getting A Grip left me wanting more. I had so many questions and thankfully they were all answered in Balance Check . Let's start from the beginning. I love the fact that Elena did not fall apart or pine away for Greg, she has three little girls she has to take care of. So, she did what any single mother would do, get a job. I love the empowerment of Elena, she doesn't *need* a man, and although she is missing Greg, she has to live her life to the fullest. I don't think I've mentioned how I love Greg and his decision to leave in order to be with Peyton. It was the mature thing to do. It was of course the hardest and most heartbreaking choice he had to make, but nonetheless it was the RIGHT one. I'll always applaud Greg for choosing his child, no matter how much it hurt. Now, can we talk about the fact that when returned to town I was over the moon? I want nothing more than for Greg and Elena to get back on the journey of falling for each other. Side-note: How freaking AWESOME is Joie? I CANNOT for her book to come out! Winning Elena is no easy task and she is not a foregone conclusion, there will always be his crazy ex-wife looming over them and their relationship. Libby and her antics can take Greg and Peyton away from Elena again, and I can totally understand where she is coming from with her fears. I think Greg handled it beautifully. Side-note #2: APUTI! I absolutely adore him, he is mushiest teddy bear ever, ugh <3 M.E. Carter handled post-divorce and the realities of the aftermath and what it entails beautifully. I like the way of all the characters are not perfect or imperfect. Do they have flaws? Yes, of course, they are human and it is natural for us humans to make mistakes, but there is also what is beautiful about us. I am always impressed in how M.E. Carter portrays the characters as the most down to earth people who are so realistic, they could pop out of the book and be real life people you actually know. One of my favourite moment of the book was between the sweetest and it almost broke my heart. Trust me, your heart will ache for both of them. "Greg and I are a team" - Elena. This quote is very important. While this quote may seem inconsequential for most people, for me it shows the importance of someone like Elena, who not too long ago went through a divorce, can trust a man so much that she comes a "we" again. This is evidence that not only has Elena opened herself up to love again, but that she already is there with Greg. They are each others HEA. "I love them. They're my girls. All four of you are. I want to take care of all of you and make you happy" - Greg.

Carter perfectly wrapped up Elena and Greg's story

M.E. Carter perfectly handled incorporating real life events such as divorce, co-parenting, dating after divorce, and confidence issues in both books in the #mynewlife series. She does an amazing job of focusing on the very REAL aspects of second chance romances. M.E. Carter made me laugh out loud with this pair of romantic comedies. Carter shows us that average people can be sexy too! Elena, Greg, Callie, and Aputi are just a handful of the amazing characters you'll meet in the #mynewlife series. Getting a Grip left us hanging at the end, unsure of where Greg and Elena would end up. Balance Check tells the story of what happens after Greg returns to town and how both he and Elena find themselves. You won't want to miss this series! I love, love, loved it!

    Love always prevails

I was so pleasantly surprised by my love for Balance Check, especially because I didn't particularly love the first book in the duo. But I binged this in a matter of a couple of hours. It was a quick and easy read for me, making me smile and laugh the entire way through. Confident Elena was spunky and fun! And I really really loved Callie this time around. Together they are the perfect BFF duo. I think I particularly enjoyed that the book focused more on the adults than the children this time around. And ME Carter once again wrote a story that was incredibly relatable, making me feel invested in the lives of these characters. I think that what I loved most about this book is that even though everything was wrapped in a pretty bow at the end, it was done in a way that still felt extremely honest. This is a story about real life. This is about being an adult and going through the hardships that happen in our every day lives. And it's also a really sweet love story about finding your soulmate and fighting for each other even when life tries to rip you apart. It's the kind of book that'll give you hope that maybe there is someone out there for everyone. And maybe some of us just have to wait a little longer to find them.

Perfect Conclusion to an Awesome Story!

Balance Check by ME Carter is the continuation of Elena and Greg’s story that started in Getting A Grip. I REALLY enjoyed this book! We all need a Balance Check in life every now and then, and this story is about Elena taking hers. It is just as funny and charming as the first and (not surprisingly with this author) so real. Reading this series is like peeking in on your neighbor’s doings and hoping you don’t get caught! And who knew guys putting their hands in their pockets as they walk away was a thing? But I digress... This was a great ending to a fantastic story, but only the beginning of this incredible #MyNewLife series and I can't wait to see what comes next! Disclosure: I was given an ARC of this title in exchange for a fair, unbiased review.

    The closure I needed

First, make sure you read Getting A Grip before reading Balance Check. I have to say, I was mad at the ending to GAG until I saw that there would be a sequel. I think that Carter did an excellent job of addressing how you deal with geographical challenges when they make it difficult (or impossible) to keep relationships with both your soul mate and your child from a previous relationship. Carter addressed this from both points of view, which was really helpful to me to see where the characters were coming from. As with GAG, Balance Check made me laugh the whole way through. I loved this book, but I am giving it 4 stars because I think the ending was too neat. Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a story that makes them reflect and also laugh along the way. Job well done, Carter! I can't wait for your next book!
