OK story but Amateur Writing and No Editing

I found that while this did have the potential to be an interesting human vs alien space-age story, the amateurish writing and lack of grammatical skills distracted me so badly that whatever forward momentum the story may have had was destroyed. It seems that no one edited or proof-read this manuscript before it was published. The writer goes from simply using the wrong words in places (bare instead of bear, creek instead of creak, shear instead of sheer) to not seeming to understand what words to use to describe the action of his characters (I mean, think about it for a minute. You're in combat, and you're "strolling" towards your comrades?? Running, striding, creeping, sneaking, any number of different words to describe movement depending on what type of battle situation you're in, but strolling? He uses this word often to describe character movement, and given the scenarios the characters tend to be in at the time, I highly doubt anyone would be strolling anywhere). Then there is the proliferation of commas. There, are, like, commas, everywhere, because, it, seems, the author doesn't know how to construct sentences with anything else. Very frequently, a semi-colon would be more appropriate, as would a period, followed by a separate sentence. Put simply, this manuscript requires some serious rewriting followed by heavy editing. Then maybe it would be possible to read it without cringing every couple of pages. Yes, I'm an English Major.

Good Action, Easy Reading. Grips the reader from page 1 and does not let up for a moment.
