  • Enjoyable!

Beauty’s Curse was an entertaining and sweet read. I read the first book in the series, Tempting the Pirate, and I had been dying to know what happened to David. I am glad I got to read his story! Though Beauty’s Curse is book 2 in Love on the High sea series it can be read as a stand-alone. Amelia Archer is cursed, or so she believes as bad luck follows her everywhere. I even started to believe she was cursed considering all the mishaps that happened in her life. Fate or not fate had her on a pirate ship where the team voted to have her tossed off because she was such blasted bad luck. David Lamont an almost pirate decided to leave with her, knowing the dangers she faced alone on the open sea in a small boat. I never thought I would enjoy this book so much considering David was not the hard core alpha I normally love. He was honorable, brave, knew when enough was enough and fought for what was right. He was very protective of Amelia, and did everything in his power to shelter her, while allowing her strength to shine on their unwanted adventure. I really fell in love with him. :) Amelia herself was a pretty cool young lady. She really believed she was the one responsible for all the crap happening around her, and like David I thought very arrogant and silly of course, to even believe she had such control over life. I started to understand though and even ached for her. Her gentle strength in the face of such ‘bad luck’ was admirable. The love between David and Amelia was so sweet and realistic. I loved how they supported and encouraged each other, and their relationship on the high seas and when they were stranded on an Island gave me a peek into what their life could be like in the future and I felt satisfied theirs was a love that would last. Overall this book was an enjoyable read and the pacing was great. The only thing I really wanted and I did not get was to see Amelia reunion with her family and her wicked step mother getting her comeuppance. It also tickled my fancy to read of David and Amelia eating coconut and Soursop…things I use pretty often. Though it did make me chuckle to think when eating the Soursop they only left the seed…the heart of the fruit is gross. ;) I recommend. This review was originally posted on Geeks In High School

  • Fun adventurous pirate romance!

It's adventure on the high seas in this swashbuckling pirate romance starring Amelia and David. Amelia considers herself bad luck based on her life experiences to date and when the ship she's sailing in to escape whatever doomed fate awaits her starts to sink and she is 'rescued' by pirates, it's par for the course. On board, musician David comes to her rescue more than once, defending her from superstitions and wary eyes. When he decides to align his fortunes with hers, he may get more than he bargained for, including a reason to return home again. This was a fun, exciting story. Amelia's luck seems to go from bad to worse with every adventure that befalls her, and then David too, in her quest to be alone with her cursed self. Despite her feelings about herself, she still tries to make the best of every situation and comes across as brave and courageous in the face of adversity. She doesn't complain about the things that befall her, she just works hard to make things better. David was a great hero, kind and considerate and protective. He wasn't a really strong alpha male figure but didn't hesitate to defend her in any situation. Once he'd decided to be on her side, he is in 100%. There is a definite attraction between the two of them that leads to some steamy love scenes. The setting was very well researched and all the little details of travelling by pirate ship and the islands they encountered were interesting and added to the story. All in all, an enjoyable tale! 4 stars.
