    Disappointing

From the reviews, I was expecting a well-written psychological thriller. Instead, I found that the plot - especially the climax - was entirely predictable. There was no real mystery to it. I noticed a few typos which, in this day of automated spell and grammar check, is inexcusable. The plot line was presented as a juxtaposition of time, place, and character viewpoint, which made it difficult at times to follow the sequence of events. The main character’s actions were sometimes illogical, given the circumstances. I found it hard to root for her as much as the situation called for, simply because, in my opinion, she was presented as being weak, passive, indecisive and ineffectual. There was only one scene in which she showed any backbone at all, and I needed more of that to win me over. The antagonist - or villain in this story - was not a well-developed character. There was no background provided to suggest why he behaved the way he did. This book lacked the depth of both character and plot development to make it a true suspense novel.

    A great read

I enjoyed this story. It was very well written, and the reader could feel Heather’s situation of being trapped and the dilemma of loss she would feel regardless which decision she made. I didn’t see the twist toward the end of the book coming. I feel that Adele O’Neill wrote realistically about the Inspector’s condition, but it didn’t stop me from wanting him to give Heather the reassurance she wanted that she was making the right decision. I liked all of the characters and enjoyed that they were all connected.

    4.5 out of 5

“… If I always do what I always did, I will always get what I always got.” I got this ARC in exchange of an honest review from Netgalley. Thank you Aria and Netgalley for this wonderful chance!! Recently I have been craving thrillers a lot, so when I stumbled upon this one and I checked the synopsis, I just had to try it out!! And I don’t regret it at all!! Its a haunting survival story of two woman from different time and place, fighting the same battle “Domestic Violence”. I am just in love with Adele’s writing! Well DONE!! As it deals with a gruesome topic, there are some extremely graphic contents that could be unsettling, but thats how it is, thats how Domestic Violence effects a victim’s body and mind. It’s an amazing psychological thriller. Rating: 4.5/5

    Suspenseful

This is a great thriller, full of so much deception and revenge! Twists and turns at every corner. Suspenseful to the core! I would recommend. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

    Behind a closed door

Good story line. Good build up to a great ending which brought tears to my eyes. Well done. Looking forward to the next book. The only downside, was the unnecessary, sometimes constant swearing. I don’t understand why modern authors feel the need to use bad language to emphasise what would still be a good read without swearing. My wife and I are ordinary, simple people, but we and our friends/colleagues rarely ever find it necessary to swear. Nevertheless, a great story.
