A Story of Survival and Unexpected Bonds

✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ FOUR-STAR ✩ REVIEW ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ ⭐ ⭐ Provided by Author in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐ Judging a Book by it's Cover: Two men, clothed, but in the beginning stages of passion, ready to disrobe. Tropical beach scene surroundings. Synopsis sounds a cliche and silly, but I'm willing to give it a chance. Looking Deeper: Third-person POV. Troy walks in on his brother, bandmates and girlfriend partying it up and walks out after it's clear that his brother did not take an ultimatum to quit seriously. With plans to fly home from Sydney to L.A., he hires a small jet to get him home immediately. Brian is the pilot's second. Once hailed a hero after averting an air disaster, he suffers survivor's guilt and cannot stomach the thought of captaining again. A sudden storm brings the plane down on an uninhabited island hundreds of miles from any other civilization. If you are looking for a full-on m/m romance in this story, this may not be the book for you. As the synopsis claims, these *are* two straight men that must depend on one another to survive and ever-so slowly develop a bond that forms a relationship. Only about thirty percent of the story involves them as a couple. But the journey they face in getting there, and their discoveries post-rescue take the reader on an adventure that is a pleasure to read nonetheless. There is not a lot of room for secondary characters while they are on the island, there are a few pre- and post- that add some dynamics, depth and minor conflicts. The dialogue is fantastic. Characters interact naturally. The plot was not as chaotic and deep as some, but it did not really need to be - in fact, the stripped bare feel to parts of it were a nice reflection of situation and circumstances that surrounded Troy and Brian while stranded. Predictability was low and the conclusion was solidly provided with a short flash-forward style epilogue. Overall, although it was lower in M/M Romance content, the story of survival and opening up to new horizons was well told and enjoyable to read. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rating: [R] ~ Score: 4.2 ~ Stars: 4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
