    Different and quirky!

Having devoured this author's 'archaeological' thriller 'The Trespass' (although I'm not sure that there was much archaeology involved but anyway ...) I took a chance on this novel, a detective story set in England in a very unusual setting. I'm not a huge fan of detective fiction but this one had an intriguing premise so I gave it a shot and I'm very pleased that I did. Quirky, interesting and unusual is one way of describing it. I won't give the plot away but it involves a monastery, murder and bad weather ... the protagonist, DCI Moran, is a likeable but jaded character I really warmed to after the first thirty or so pages. There's also a very good twist to this story, and I love twists! My only criticism is I'd have liked the book to have been a little longer but now I'm being picky. Overall, very enjoyable.

    Black December

As someone with extensive medical experience, I couldn't quite accept the symptoms displayed by Brendan Moran. A bit of a "stretch" but otherwise, the characters on the whole were adequately defined. Senior police in management are not portrayed glowingly. Changes in hierarchy come as a result of unexpected death or outright corruption, esp in subsequent episodes.

    Good book

Fast paced, kept me turning pages. Characters were believable. The description of the abbey and the llfe of the monks was very accurate.

    Black December fell short

I really wanted to like this book, but in the end it was just a bit too unrealistic for my tastes. You need a scorecard to keep up with all the victims and the multiple killers.

    Black December

I had trouble getting into this book but soon came to enjoy the authors writing. Was a really great story. Had lots of twists and turn. Have already got book two. Happy reading everyone
