Very good in spite of seeming very cliché to start

A _lot_ of what's going on with this is incredibly cliché to start with. It goes to town on a lot of the common isekai tropes in the beginning (including going so far with making the world like a video game that characters can literally see HP and MP bars over their own heads). However, in spite of that, it's shockingly good. Part of that is that the the further you get in, the more it starts either making fun of the various isekai tropes or begins to turn them on their head. I don't think that it goes far enough with that in the first volume to please folks who _really_ don't like many of the typical video game-esque and hero-summoning isekai tropes, but it's not playing them all straight, and there are signs that they'll either be making fun of or subverting more of them over time. Regardless, what really makes this book shine is the characters. They're just plain gold. Their interactions are interesting and entertaining. Some aspects of their relationships are very much cliché, whereas others definitely aren't, but even the cliché parts often end up being great because of the character's personalities and how they interact. So, even the parts of the story that should be bad end up being good. All in all, it seems like given the basic setup and setting, it really shouldn't be that great a story, but ultimately, I absolutely loved it. So, I highly recommend that you give it a go.
