Blaze of Secrets is a keeper

Jessie Donovan's Blaze of Secrets is exciting, has great characters you care about and never know what will happen next. Jax is the strong male who isn't going to be taken in by his rescuee--right. Who could resist Kiarra? Solemn, all business Jaxton? It didn't take long for her inner strength to work on his reserve. She'd been through a horrible captivity and he was to protect her and train her in self defense. No one told him how to defend his feelings. I loved watching her grow and find herself, overcome what few could. The action kept me guessing and wondering who was friend or foe. The sub characters could all have their own stories and I hope many do. I was invested in this story from page one to the final page. A definite keeper. I was provided an ARC for an honest review.

I'm sad to say that this book only got 3 stars in my opinion. :( I'm a huge Jessie Donovan fan so I hated giving it anything lower than a 4, but I have to honestly say that this story was an emotionally exhausting read for me. I'll start by saying that I felt that the main heroine, Kiara, was too self pitying for my tastes. With thoughts like [my family was happier without me] to [why would my sister show up right after I got out of AMT when my family never cared to look for me before], I just wanted to punch her in the face! I understand that having been taken away from her parents at the age of 13 she is probably not the most emotionally stable person, but it still felt a bit excessive. And her assuming that everyone was going to do bad things to her because she compared them to this mysterious Ty person, who honestly I'm still not sure about. She was more apt to blame her untrustfulness of this mystery dude, instead of the fact that the AMT screwed her up. Her emotional instability made the 'relationship' between her and the hero of the story seem psychotic almost. And then there was Jax who didn't seem much more mature than Kiara. Calling her a liar when she said she couldn't use her fire magic all because someone else claimed her a 'Fire talent'. Also didn't like how Jaxton kept calling her 'pet'. It's almost as bad as 'poppet' which makes me thing of a pervy creeper. The relationship and emotions of the story just seemed like they were unstable and all over the place. It also felt as though some parts of the AMT world didn't develop very well or information just got thrown in there for filler instead of having a real purpose. Terms like 'Fire Talent' were initially confusing because it seems like that term was different from just a regular fire magic user and it felt like maybe there was another book before this one that gave more of a background to the world. Sadly I just couldn't relate to the main female character and the dude was pretty much an ass. EMOTIONAL ROLLER COASTER READ!!

    Fantastic I love it

Kiara was born a first born Feiru with magic powers and at a young age they are taken from thire family and locked into a compound called Asylums of magical threats "AMT" and never seen again. Jaxon's brother was a first born and taken. Jaxton gas been looking for him to take him back. But to get the info on his brother he had to save a woman too "kiarra" Wow what a cool series. So different with tons of everything I love. Mystery, drama, action, and wow it really was fantastic to read and could be a great movie! It's a most read for anyone who is a fan of magic. Book gifted for an honest review and I honestly loved it.
