Not intended for a standalone read

'Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes' is the novella prequel to 'Pretty Girls'; a novel by esteemed crime writer, Karin Slaughter. Let me begin this review by stating that if I had read 'Pretty Girls' prior to this story I probably would have been a little less 'on the fence' about the overall plot. But, as it stands, I must say that I was moderately confused by 'Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes'; It held my attention and all. However, I just felt that there was a something missing that would have made the story more enjoyable; a fact that was particularly noticeable when the book came to a sudden, and anti-climatic end ... full stop. Furthermore, I believed the main character, Julia Carroll, to be fairly self absorbed and shallow. These weren't traits that would endear her to the readers; or make them sympathetic of her. In fact many readers may feel the opposite; as has been noted in past by reviewers. It must be a tough life; Oh the woes of being physically attractive ... On a more positive note, this was not a bad book in its entirety. Overall, It was competent and interesting enough that I would recommend it. However, I would strongly suggest that readers wait until they have read "Pretty Girls" beforehand; or at the very least read it at a time where they can read the follow up immediately afterwards. This is absolutely a book that requires more the background information to enjoy. I will be reading the next book.

    Blonde Hair Blue Eyes

This was really good but you need to read Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes before you read Pretty Girls. It is a prequel. I read these in the wrong order and while this book is fantastic it would have been even better if I had read them in the right order.

    AMAZING MEMERIZING THRILLING MUST-READ

For a short story/novella, this title has it all! It was captivating...mesmerizing...engaging...thrilling!! Do you get the point? And all of that happens in less than three hours of listening! You can't get any more amazing than that! I think that novella's are a special breed of writing, and some writes have the niche for it, and other's don't...some writers write them to perfection, other are a colossal failure! Karin Slaughter's Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes definitely falls under the perfection category! FOR A MORE IN DEPTH REVIEW, PLEASE VISIT MY BLOG, CHORLEY CHRONICALS!!! This was my first title by this author, and I honestly don't think that I could have selected a better first, at least for wanting to continue reading works by this author! I've been wanting to check out her work for a few years now, it just seems that I can never get around to it! You all know how those ridiculously long TBR piles are!! I am super stoked to say that I have read a Karin Slaughter book, and I most definitely can guarantee you that I will read many more titles to come! Kathleen Early is totally on point as a narrator of this story, but then again, I haven't found a title that I've listened to of hers that she hasn't met the criteria of perfections! She is totally awesome at changing her voice to suit other characters, especially children, and leaves me mystified at her greatness! Awesome choice in narrators! Overall, you can't go wrong with reading Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes! I mean, seriously, what other title can you have finished in one setting, and put the book down feeling totally fulfilled and satisfied as if you just read a full-scale novel? Right here...that's where!
