    Promising new series

It started as an ordinary night in the bar, when Tendra, who is a server, noticed a huge stranger, dressed in black. After her shift, on her way home, Tendra feels that someone is following her, and unfortunately she is quite right as she is kidnapped. If only it were so simple: Tendra has been kidnapped the same stranger she had noticed before, only Athan he is a vampire and Tendra – a mortal, albeit not a mere mortal – has a large role to play in vampire politics. BLOOD GUARD, a paranormal romance, is a departure for Megan Erickson, and I felt she was successful in her endeavour. The author solidly establishes the worldbuilding, and adds a few innovative twists to the vampire mythology. The atmosphere is rather dark, with a graphic novel vibe and the tone of a 1950s film noir, naturally rather fitting for vampires. Tendra takes it all in stride, and given the context, it made complete sense to me. However, she does get in trouble because – silly human! – she just won’t listen. BLOOD GUARD is far from the only book with what I consider an issue: Tendra is this tiny blond woman and the hero, Athan, is humongous; I couldn’t help but picture a flesh-toned Hulk. I felt there could have been a bit more excitement, although the wow factor picks up as the story unfolds, and I also thought the visuals were lacking a bit, but then again, it’s a rather dreary world. Surprisingly enough, the romance was definitely a highlight in BLOOD GUARD; it was very nice and tender while the sex is wild and lusty. There was one part of the prophecy I could have done without; I thought it was a bit of overkill. Overall, I thought BLOOD GUARD is not great, however it’s good enough that I will be looking forward to the next instalment, as it sounds very promising – and no, this book does not end in a cliffhanger. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I give 3 ½ stars

    Great Paranormal Romance

It has been a while since I have read a vampire story so I was excited to hear about this new one from Megan Erickson. I really loved the world she created with this book. Tendra is alone in this world except for a few close friends. She isn’t afraid of what goes bump in the night and she has the fighting skills to back that up. But she has met her match when she meets Athan and learns a long guarded secret about her family past. She also learns vampires are real. Tendra and Athan have a long way to get from Mission City to the Gregorie home past the Misson Woods and there are a few people or should I say creatures trying to make sure they don’t get there. I think Tendra and Athan were a little instalovy but that is expected in the circumstances they were in. I really felt the connection between the two and was wondering how all of it would work out due to Tendra’s “duty” to the Gregoire Clan. Even though Athan was tasked to protect Tendra she really fought for him too. I loved the interaction between those two. I figured some things out in this book but it wasn’t because it was predictable. It just had my mind going at 100 trying to figure out what was what. My favorite scene….Wings. That was so great and I can’t wait to see what is next for this couple.

    Unique take on Vampires

Vampire stories are a highly popular subject matter so I'm always impressed when an author can spin a fresh take. I like the differences that Megan Erickson created and want to learn more. This was an enjoyable story with great main characters. It had enough tension with Tendra being meant for Athan's brother. Watching him battle with his sense of duty over his feelings that grew for her, the longer he guarded her. The epilogue created enough interest to see where Book 2 will continue with the storyline. Paranormal Romance

What if you really REALLY wanted someone and knew s/he was not for you – I mean – the prophecy of years says that the Sanguivita (Tendra) belongs to the king in waiting and that is Idris and not his brother Athan. BUT Athan and Tendra are drawn to one another in spite of the rules and the prophecy. They need to get from the human area to the Gregoire stronghold and it won’t be easy as assassins, two different groups of non-aligned vampires and turncoats from their own clan try to keep them from achieving their goal. I loved Tendra – what a tough kick*ss woman she is! I also loved Athan and how tender, caring and sometimes clueless he was. Idris shows promise and I believe his story is coming in the next book AND there are a few other characters mentioned, like Zeb and his cousin Wyatt, that could easily end up in stories of their own. It will be interesting to see where the author goes with this series and I look forward to finding out. If you like vampire stories with strong H/h characters and a bit of a different take on things then this might be a book you would enjoy reading. I would like to thank NetGalley and Loveswept for the ARC – This is my honest review.

    LOVED this!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book I am a HUGE Vampire fan and this is the first book by this author I have read, The way this author describes Athan I could truly see him in my mind, she did an amazing job weaving this world, where rival clans are at the start of a war and the Blood of Tendra is special, she is the 10th in her generation and she has been raised to protect herself, Tendra is grieving the loss of her mom, But when Athan kidnaps her and then starts telling her about Vampires and that she is meant for his brother the soon to be king of the Gregorie clan, she thinks he is crazy, that is until things start falling in place, But will they make it to the compound safely and will Tendra and Athan be able to fight their feeling for each other. I LOVED this book even the side characters of Zeb and Wyatt, I cannot wait to continue in this world
