    Heart pounding!

This novel may start off slowly, building each character but it wasn't long before I couldn't put it down! It is 2:10 am - I just finished reading.

Fascinating protagonist and cast of characters

Fascinating, compelling character develpment and cast. Definately suspensful and anguishing. Do want to read the next book in the series. However, although the writers' use of dialogue was engaging and powerful, too often I had to reread a dialogue section to figure out who was talking to whom. A simple edit--or a different editor--could easily improve the flow here. Often identifying tags were not clear at the beginning of dialogue sections. The writers' use of deep point of view was gripping until they would suddenly exclude the reader from what the protagonist was thinking, even though we were in her head. I found that a cheap trick and very distracting. Loved the depictions of London and England and insomnia. Was baffled that anyone in a modern city would use firewood to heat a historic home unless they had a high efficiency wood-burning stove or mason fireplace. Don't they have anti-polution laws or fire safety regulations in the UK? Anyone using an old fireplace to heat their home in Canada would be paying through the nose for home insurance. Guess there are some things we Canadians just don't get about the British. Evie in Barrie, in a record cold snap, comfortable with central heating and a furnace using natural gas. Yes, I recommend this book

    Gripping, psychological mystery

Gripping storyline. I love psychological mysteries and this one fufils with the focus on the main character analyzing characters. The details about London were interesting too. I didn't like that in a few places there were actions or outbursts by characters that functioned only to forward the plot but didn't necessarily align with the character, nor were entirely necessary. However, it's the first book in the series and characters sometimes just need to settle in. I'm eager to read on, see what happens on Tuesday.
