    Interested, but not bowled over.

The premise was good and interesting... I liked the secondary characters a lot. The romance felt authentic generally, but something about the MC was kind of dull and slightly thick. There was a lot of telling and not showing and the pacing was slightly off. However, the plot was enough to keep me interested and I bought the other books in the series to find out what happens. Hopefully, Amelia will stop being so slow and naive in the coming books.

    Debut novel, my rear end!

This book was amazing. I was lucky enough to be able to read an advanced copy, and there's only one thing I can say about it: Holy Shiznit. This was Smith's first release, and there is not a single bit of this book that is "telling" of a debut author. Editing was well-done, the authors voice is clear, but not overwhelming, and the characters are fully developed and relatable. The romantic subplot is also well done, and it's so nice to see a relationship the mimics real life, which is funny as this is a fantasy novel. More detailed review to come, but if you like magic, destiny, love, best friends, betrayal, secrets, and a wholly unique world then this is a must-read.

I like it, except for the main character

I got this book because I was enamored by the cover. And also, this book started really interesting with the prologue going on like it did. I like the concept of the story and how it’s a different look on magical people. However being not a fan of whirlwind romances and instant attractions Amelia kind of got on the wrong side of me. Also for someone who’s suppose to be so powerful, I felt like the way she was described and how she was acting was pretty contradictory. Aiden didn’t help to make me like her either. His character and how it developed, in the end was predictable for me. Then Amelia made this stupid decision in the end which made me actually hate her. I feel like coming inside the book and ask her, ‘are you even thinking?’ So, if the author’s goal was to make me feel irritated with Amelia and her choices, I can say she succeeded. Micah, I don’t know if I like him or not but I don’t trust him. I mean, Amelia has this feeling of unease towards him at the start and then suddenly it took an 180 degrees turn and they are the new best friends. What was that? I thought heroines intuition play a part too and I was pretty sure Amelia’s was right and I felt like she failed me once again. I like Cole, though. I like the big brother that he is. I like Julia because as an antagonist she played the part well. I want to know how the prologue will exactly play out for her in the end. So yeah, I’ll probably still read the next one.

    Bound by Duty

I truly love this writer. What a wonderful journey she takes you on. Her characters and story line draw you right in. After the first chapter I bought the next book. This is going to be a great series. Thank You!! Sencerly, Cindy Boytot

    LOVE THIS!

I love this book, I got the ARC and didn't put it down until it I was done, and I found myself cursing the author (jokingly, of course) at the end because I DIDN'T WANT it to END yet! Ahhhh, now I have to wait, such is the frustrating deliciousness that is a first book in a series. I'm going to have to go ahead and read it over and over until the next one comes out, just because I'm going to miss all my new friends. Alright, let's get down to the good stuff. The heroine is Amelia, and she has been stifled her whole life, and at the mercy of the decisions of the men in her life. Can't blame her for wanting to make her own decisions and be in charge or her own life for once! So with spunky side-kick Bethany, she enters the world of dating, with a hunky guy who is just too human for those in her life. As her frustration builds, her magic build until she just has to release it. Noticing her struggles, Bethany's boyfriend comes to the rescue...I won't go any further than that. Suffice it to say that things escalate, and Amelia slowly unravels the mystery of who she really is and her importance in the life of her people. She is bound by duty, but will she choose duty? Or will she choose love? Hmmm, guess we'll have to find out
