Hard to believe the author of the first three Travis novels wrote this one. It's does poorly in a comparison with the first three books.

I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books. I have read all the books in the Travis Family series and I was excited to finally have the opportunity to read Joe’s story. I love all the other books in this series especially SMOOTH TALKING STRANGER, which is one of my favorites books of all time. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with this story or the characters and it saddens me to say that, because I was looking forward to reading this book. Joe is a nice guy, but I didn’t understand what he saw in Avery. She seems cold, isn’t nice to Joe and from the way she is described, she doesn’t sound attractive. Avery Crosslin is a wedding coordinator and she meets Joe Travis when she is working at a wedding. Avery is embarrassed about her body and purposely dresses in clothes that are too large for her to hide her curvy figure. She doesn’t have much self confidence, except when it comes to her job, which is how she spends all her time. Joe is a nice guy; I liked him a lot. There is something about Avery that gets to Joe from the moment he sees her and he keeps running after her and she keeps telling him she isn’t interested. I thought she was crazy. Joe has it all. He comes from a wealthy Texas family, yet he is modest, nice and always treats Avery well. He is very patient with Avery. Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorite authors and it was wonderful catching up with the Travis family again.

Long time in the making but worth the wait!

This book has been a long time in the making. I've known since I read Sugar Daddy that the Travis family was something special. Especially since I got to watch the Travis men and women fall in love with extraordinary women and men, all except Joe. I knew Joe needed to have his story told too. He was the one Travis male who didn't fit the mold. He was an alpha man with a softer side, and that created friction between him and his father who had certain expectations of his sons. What can I say about Avery? She's spunky, determined, and a hard worker. She might not believe in happily ever after for herself but she will go above and beyond to make someone else's special day be everything they dreamed off, no questions asked. There is no problem is too big for her to handle. She's organized and meticulous. She's confident when it comes to her work but she's insecure about herself and her looks. That's something we can all relate to. All I saw was a very capable young woman who underestimated what she had to share with someone else. I hated how Avery's family was unsupportive and belittling. The only one in her corner was was her half-sister Sophia. I loved her friends/employees. I loved their camaraderie. They really made Avery smile and laugh, and me as well. I loved the tension between Sophia and Steven. Their back and forth verbal sparring was truly exciting to behold and great foreplay as well. I was so hoping they'd get together. I also loved how they pushed Avery to leave her safe holding pattern. They provided both friendship and the boost she needed to relax sometimes and take risks she wouldn't have. Joe couldn't have had better allies to woo her if he'd tried. Joe was exactly what Avery needed. He was supportive and challenged her to step out of the confines she'd put herself in to keep her heart safe. You could tell Joe was really into Avery, even when she was trying her best to push him away. It was easy to see how much Joe had changed in the years and the lessons he'd learned from what life had brought him. I loved Joe's overall attitude towards life. Life wasn't always kind to him, even being a charmed Travis, but it was admirable how he took it all in stride. It's amazing how Lisa Kleypas managed to make me fall in love with him through only Avery's eyes. We're never privy to his innermost thoughts, only his actions, yet they were enough to win me over completely. I loved seeing Avery and Joe interact with each other. They had amazing chemistry. I can't tell you how turned on I was while reading this book. In terms of heat, it's all mostly suggestive, but the way it's written you can not only see it, but feel it. That takes true talent. Lisa Kleypas is also the queen at the slow burn. She builds anticipation with precision and great technique. I was so happy to see the Travis-Cates clan together. It wasn't just Gage, Liberty, Haven, Hardy, Jack, Emma, and Luke, but it was seeing their strong bonds with each other and how their families had grown with time. My heart hurt to find out Churchill had passed. I would've loved for him to meet Avery. I think he would've adored her. I also loved meeting Ryan, a cousin to the Travis'. I fell in love with him a little in this book, and I would love to read a full length story featuring him one day. That man needs some honest love. Lisa Kleypas might have made us wait for this story, but the wait was so worth it. The story flowed beautifully and her writing bordered on poetic. I was able to "see" what she was describing in my mind. I devoured the story in handful of hours, but it felt like no time at all. I wouldn't have minded reading another hundred pages or two. I sincerely hope the wait between this book and her next contemporary won't be so long. I can never get enough of her writing and stories!

It feels like it has been forever that I've been waiting for this book and happily I can say I wasn't disappointed. This is one that will go right on the re-read shelf with the other Travis Family books. Joe Travis may have wealth and social status but to him, home and family are what really matters in life. Too bad he hasn't met the right woman yet. That is until Avery Crosslin..... Avery is hardworking and determined. The last thing she needs or wants is a man distracting her from her goals. Been there, done that, has the shredded heart to prove it. Joe, however, is persistent. When he knows what he wants, he goes after it and Avery is what he wants!! You don't want to miss this one, I highly recommend it.

    Another winner for Kleypas!

I really enjoyed this book. It seems like I have been waiting forever to get my hands on this book. Okay, I know that it has only been six years but it has felt like forever to me. I read Sugar Daddy right after its release and immediately fell in love with Lisa Kleypas's storytelling. I was at the book store to buy the next two books in the series on the day they were released. When I found out that there was going to be a fourth book after all these years, I was thrilled. I am so happy that this book turned out to be worth the wait. This book focuses on Joe and Avery. Joe is a part of the Travis family, a wealthy yet down to earth family living in Texas. Joe is really just a nice guy doing a job that he loves who happens to be a part of a wealthy family. Joe is a wonderful Hero. He is kind, sexy, and seems to understand Avery better than she understands herself. He knows exactly what he wants and is not afraid to take chances to achieve his goals. Avery is a wedding planner who does not have the close family ties that Joe has but she does have a sister that means the world to her. Avery along with her sister run a wedding planning business that is just starting to take off. Avery is a no nonsense kind of person who is focused on work and getting things done. She isn't able to see herself the way that other people do and hides in loose unflattering clothes. She has had a very difficult past that has tore her self esteem apart. I liked Joe and Avery together. They seem to really fit together nicely. There was a lot of chemistry and sexual tension between the pair. I liked that Avery, who was very guarded, seemed to open up to Joe very easily. Joe was able to understand Avery and not put any pressure on her. He was really the man that Avery needed him to be. He didn't push anything and was more than willing to be a patient as necessary. He was also very honest with Avery and let her know what to expect without trying to change her mind. He was willing to support her and wanted her to be happy even if her choices were not what he would want. I was so excited to see the Travis family again. Hardy, Gage, Liberty, and the whole gang do make a couple of appearances in this book but this story stands on its own. This book can be read as a stand alone but I would encourage anyone who has not read the earlier books to go ahead and pick those up as well...not because you need them to understand this story. I just think that the earlier books in the series are excellent books that should not be missed. This book is a solid installment in the series but I have to admit that the first two books are still my favorite. I would highly recommend this book to fans of contemporary romance. Lisa Kleypas is one of those romance authors that stand out. All of her historical and contemporary romance novels are wonderful stories with characters that find a way into your heart and leave a smile on your face. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next. I received an advance reader edition of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley for the purpose of providing an honest review.
