    Forgettable

Meh. I was expecting something deeper- a dystopian sci fi rather than straight up horror

    Mythic and moving

Vibrant worldbuilding, rich characters, and a story crackling with emotion, this is a book at once personal and mythical which mixes Caribbean-African folklore with the dystopian, a wonderful Torontonian Afro-futurism that is by turns hypnotic and viscerally terrifying. A heroine who is relatably flawed and whose painful hard-won growth felt earned on every page. Not a comfortable book, but a thoroughly enjoyable one.
