    Loved it!

Every time T Kingfisher releases something new, I but it immediately. I've been a fan of Ursula Vernon for a good decade or so and adore her illustration and her writing. It was so wonderful to see a version of the beauty and the beast from her. Despite the bizarre circumstances in which they find themselves, her heroines tend to be both realistic and eminently sensible. Unlike the Disney version of the story, the heroine is thankfully not at all prone to Stockholm syndrome.

    Funny!

Once again "T Kingfisher" has written an amusing, engaging novel. I liked it very much and i hope there are more soon.

Excellent Retelling of Beauty & the Beast!

I just finished "Bryony And Roses" by T. Kingfisher. Oh, my, this was an unexpected delight. It's a retelling of the 'Beauty and the Beast' trope/story - which is one of my favorite of this sort of classic tale. I especially loved that the main character was a very no-nonsense sort of person and not the typical 'Princess' type. There is a mystery at the heart of this story that is fascinating, and the little clues and cues are well done. Also, though the reader no doubt gets it sooner, the reason the main character doesn't get it sooner is a believable one. The Beast is also an excellent version of the archetypical character, with all the expected inclusions and a few that I felt were excellent additions. (I'm trying not to be spoilery, but it's hard.) I would have liked to see more of the backstory to some of the characters in this book, but I feel like it might have made it too long or possibly too tedious for some, though the hark-backs throughout the story give you enough to be going on with. I'm just one of those greedy people who wants all of the story she can get. If you like retellings of classic stories like 'Beauty and the Beast', etc., you're bound to like this one.

    Witty and touching

Make no mistake: this is not a book for kids. The end has some very dark stuff as the villain is revealed. For adults, it's AMAZING. So witty, so real. The sister Holly is a gem among gems. Loved it.
