    Compelling, raw, and gritty

This is a compelling read by the first SWAT officer into Colombine. What he, and the nation, learned about mass shooting incidents changed the way police changed and handled such crimes. This book is not for the faint of heart - it is gritty and raw. The subject matter is disturbing and very real. The author comes across as confident to the point of arrogance, but I think that is necessary to do the things he's done. How on earth could you walk into an active shooting scene unless you were confident in your skills to survive and eliminate the threat. The insight into how these tragedies changed the way police, and SWAT specifically, train is fascinating. The author was an aggressive part of that change. He is honest about how he did things, even when they are not flattering. If you are interested in never before revealed details, this book will appeal to you. If you love a cop, or just want to better understand them, this book will appeal to you. In my case, my son is a federal leo and I haven't always understood him. This book helped me to comprehend the mentality and focus necessary to go into such a dangerous field.
