  • This is the 6th release in the Gates series

3.6 Stars This is the 6th release in the Gates series. I suggest reading the series from the beginning (i missed book 5) as the cast is more like a family and each member plays a significant supporting role in the individual couples' stories. Carlos felt he was ready to take the beginning steps and enter the chaos that is peopling... The first step was to relocate to The Gates, be closer to his brother The second was to walk among the people again face the world as he truly was Time can only heal so much - sometimes you have to take the initiative to move forward Sink or Swim You will never know until you do And this time Carlos had a true family at his back Clay has a more reserved look at the world but Carlos sees through his gruff exterior the first time his eyes land upon him. Carlos, being a little socially awkward, shares his observation with Clay. LOL you can imagine this did not sit well with him Thus it begins This is a bit of a love at first sight romance. Carlos, an innocent in many ways, and Clay being the jaded soul he is are actually a perfect fit. Clay is natural protective but not overbearing and it allows Carlos to bloom in a way, IMO, he never could have had it been anyone else guiding him through his journey. I do wish there had been a bit more substance(?) when it came to certain events in the story but I also accept that this was a shorter read (or maybe I just devoured it faster IDK) and that was not possible. This is one of those series that has all the feels and the characters stay with you long after the closing page. Each individual story provides a touch of suspense and mystery the bonds of family and the intimacy and discovery of a new romance A wonderful addition to the series

  • Interesting Love Story

**First Time Reader**. This was a very interesting romance. I had so many feels for Carlos. He really did have a tragic childhood and I was happy to see he had a very supporting group of friends along with his brother. So when he met Clay he found somebody that saw him for himself not just judging from outside appearances. Now it took me awhile to buy their romance...they seem so awkward at first not really compatible but the more and more they got to know each other I felt the bond...the love that started to develop. It was nice. That little drama with Carlos' past towards the end not too surprising but it kept me hooked to see the outcome. I was happy for the guys at the end and was happy I gave the novella a try. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

  • Feel good read

4.5 MCs Carlos and Clay meet at Carlos’s brother’s wedding. Carlos approaches Clay, but is rebuffed by the handsome wedding guest. Carlos has a painful history complicated by his bulking size and an impressive scar on his neck, which makes him the target of people wanting to physically challenge him. All of these things make him self conscious about moving about in public. But determined to connect with the brother he met recently and start living life, Carlos moves to DTLA, buys a condo at “The Gates”, and continues his career as an artist. Despite their mutual attempts to avoid each other, Clay becomes his tour guide and the increased time spent together lead both men to develop feelings for each other. There is mystery to be solved and brotherly feathers to be ruffled, but all ends in an HEA. What I like about this author is the strong theme of sibling devotion. Although Carlos, who was raised in foster care only met his brother Miguel at their mother’s funeral, they are as connected and close as siblings raised together. Great feel-good short read! • Watch out for coincidences!

Carlos, an artist is dragging some very heavy baggage behind him. But he's determined to lighten his load and put some down! He knows he has a few challenges, but he is ready to step up. Clay, a cop is carrying some luggage from his childhood, but he can handle the weight. He uses his experiences as a foundation upon which to build. He thinks he has no heart for emotions after a devestating event, but that was before he met Carlos. Carlos is Miguel's rather recently found older brother. The back story is riveting. They unexpectedly meet at Miguel and Finn's wedding. Rather than turn away, they turn toward each other. They are ready for the right relationship, at the right time. They are both absoluely likeable men and this is an easy read, that pulls strongly at all your feelings. M. Tasia has done an excellent job incorporating these two men with the rest of the Gates. There is mystery and action and the right kind of love. Good story. Well done! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

  • Acceptance and Healing

Carlos Fernandez has had a difficult life because he looked different. With his 7-foot height, he was noticeable and earned rude stares, nasty comments, or the aggressive actions of bullies. At his brother’s wedding, he meets Clay Everett, an LAPD officer with a protective nature. The two develop a friendship which changes and grows deeper as they learn to trust each other. Can Clay’s total acceptance help Carlos find the self-confidence to be comfortable about who he is? Can he accept himself and become the person he was meant to be?
