Not what I was hoping for.

Catching Summer is the 6th book in the Second Chances series but it can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read any of the other stories but it wasn’t necessary to read them before reading this one. This is the first book I’ve read by L.P. Dover and it’s told in alternating first person point of view. I wish I could say I really liked this book but it just didn’t work well for me. I’ve read many good things about books by this author so I’d be willing to read another one even though I didn’t really enjoy this one that much. The “second chances” romance trope is one of my absolute favorites so I was eagerly anticipating reading this one and was disappointed when, for me, it didn’t live up to the things I’d read about it. I found the writing to be a bit choppy and I didn’t feel any chemistry between the heroine and Hero. Even the sex scenes didn’t seem that great. Yes, there was a fair amount of dirty, sexy talk but it just didn’t feel right; it almost felt forced. And there didn’t seem to be any real tenderness between the h and H. There was mystery and suspense in this story but I was able to spot the bad guy way too easily. I think I would have enjoyed the book more if it had been shorter; there was a lot of unnecessary stuff that I didn’t feel added anything to the main story. I did feel a lot of compassion for Summer and what she went through with her first husband. She has made an admirable comeback from a really bad situation. I’ve given the book 3 stars, rounded up from 2.5 because I finished it and because I know how hard authors work to produce their stories. I don’t really like to leave less than glowing reviews. Book ratings are always subjective so while this book isn’t a favorite for me you might disagree and love it. *****Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions*****

    Emotional and touching

This is a highly emotional and touching story that is the perfect combination of steamy sexy and thrilling. Summer Jacobs has spent the last two years dealing with the horrific loss of her husband. Between therapy and pouring herself into her business she's finally coming out of her grief and is ready to start trying to really live again. Evan Townsend is a pro football player who comes into Summer's restaurant frequently. He's always been interested in Summer but he also knew she was finding her way so he held back. He senses the time is finally right and when they are paired to work together with his team, he's determined to finally get her to really see him and what they could have. Nothing seems to come easily for Summer though. Can they make it through all the obstacles and events that keep popping up along their path?? I really enjoyed this one and think you will too. I highly recommend it.

    Holy hot mess of emotions!

Holy hot mess of emotions! It was like I was watching a movie on Lifetime, and I totally needed tissues and a tub of ice cream to go with it. This is only the second book I have read from LP Dover and I was even more impressed with it than the first (and I gave that one 5 *WINK*!). I was once again hooked with the the prologue alone and needed to know more about Summer. Her heart wrenching past made it for an interesting foundation to build a new life. This new life just happen to include the companionship of Evan. A total football playing bachelor who I got a taste of in Intercepting Love. His protective nature and boyish charm had me swooning at every half smile! Their chemistry had me blushing and I felt a strong connection to not only them, but even the secondary characters. So much so that I completely broke down and had an ugly cry moment. I couldn't believe what I had read and my heart was completely shattered. Then a twist that I didn't see coming!! (Which is rare for me) I can not express how much you need to read this book, so just go do it and thank me later! BEYOND 5 *WINK* READ Book Flirts by Jessi

This one has a little bit of everything

This story has a little bit of everything…sadness, family, love, suspense and mystery. I loved the plot to this one but the execution was a bit off for me. I was pretty involved for about the first half but things started dwindling off for me after that. I completely understand that this is fiction but there were some things that made it too unrealistic for my personal taste but it did hold my attention and I loved most of the characters. Summer has been through a tragedy unlike any story I’ve read before. We don’t get a whole lot of detail on this part of the story but there’s enough to truly understand what Summer went through. It’s taken her 2 years, but through therapy and her family, she’s ready to start living again. Once she’s admitted this to herself, she starts dating Evan. I didn’t really feel the connection with Evan and Summer. They started out as friends but there wasn’t anything to that friendship in the story other than just being told they were friends. There was no build up. They’re relationship moved very quickly and there were times where I felt like I missed something. It felt like one minute they agree to take it as slowly as she needs to and then the next they’re moving in together. In my personal opinion, I just think that if there were a little more development of the characters I probably would’ve connected better. This might not be my favorite book from this author but it won’t be my last!

    Love Summer & Evan

This is the 1st book of LP Dover that I've read. I really enjoyed it! I didn't want it to end! It's an love story with lots of twists and some suspense and angst too! Pretty perfect combination! I love Summer & Evan! Their story is one that I won't forget! My heart broke for Summer & everything she had to deal with in losing her MMA fighting husband. She thought that dating anyone in sports was out of the question until Evan! Their connection is awesome! I love their relationship, however, I found their relationship did develop rather fast. Summer is broken from her past! She's working hard to get over the death of her ex. She's very admirable in how she handles herself & how strong of a woman she is. Even is a dream! He's strong, protective, hot as hell & a great partner! My heart stopped a few times with the suspense & twists!! I wanted to reach in the book & help protect them from Summer's past!! I loved the end & can't wait for the next book! I will go back & read from the beginning of the series!
