    Emotional and touching

This is a highly emotional and touching story that is the perfect combination of steamy sexy and thrilling. Summer Jacobs has spent the last two years dealing with the horrific loss of her husband. Between therapy and pouring herself into her business she's finally coming out of her grief and is ready to start trying to really live again. Evan Townsend is a pro football player who comes into Summer's restaurant frequently. He's always been interested in Summer but he also knew she was finding her way so he held back. He senses the time is finally right and when they are paired to work together with his team, he's determined to finally get her to really see him and what they could have. Nothing seems to come easily for Summer though. Can they make it through all the obstacles and events that keep popping up along their path?? I really enjoyed this one and think you will too. I highly recommend it.

Not what I was hoping for.

Catching Summer is the 6th book in the Second Chances series but it can be read as a stand-alone. I haven’t read any of the other stories but it wasn’t necessary to read them before reading this one. This is the first book I’ve read by L.P. Dover and it’s told in alternating first person point of view. I wish I could say I really liked this book but it just didn’t work well for me. I’ve read many good things about books by this author so I’d be willing to read another one even though I didn’t really enjoy this one that much. The “second chances” romance trope is one of my absolute favorites so I was eagerly anticipating reading this one and was disappointed when, for me, it didn’t live up to the things I’d read about it. I found the writing to be a bit choppy and I didn’t feel any chemistry between the heroine and Hero. Even the sex scenes didn’t seem that great. Yes, there was a fair amount of dirty, sexy talk but it just didn’t feel right; it almost felt forced. And there didn’t seem to be any real tenderness between the h and H. There was mystery and suspense in this story but I was able to spot the bad guy way too easily. I think I would have enjoyed the book more if it had been shorter; there was a lot of unnecessary stuff that I didn’t feel added anything to the main story. I did feel a lot of compassion for Summer and what she went through with her first husband. She has made an admirable comeback from a really bad situation. I’ve given the book 3 stars, rounded up from 2.5 because I finished it and because I know how hard authors work to produce their stories. I don’t really like to leave less than glowing reviews. Book ratings are always subjective so while this book isn’t a favorite for me you might disagree and love it. *****Reviewed for Xtreme-Delusions*****

    Sweet Romance

I haven't read any of Dover's books previous, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I ended up enjoying Catching Summer. Summer has had a tough go of it since her husband was murdered and she was forced to watch, and after being in therapy for years, she's finally in a place where she feels to is ready to start moving forward with her life. Evan is a pro football player, who has had feelings for Summer for awhile now, but was warned away from pursuing Summer by her sister because Summer was still in a fragile state, so he's held off, but now that Summer is ready to move forward, she and Evan begin a relationship. I did feel like their relationship progressed a little too fast, but I thought they were really sweet together, and Evan treated Summer really well. The intimate scenes were quick, but steamy, and I like that they don't play games with each other; both of them are honest when things come up in their lives that would cause tension if withheld, so that is definitely refreshing. As the couple continues to grow together, someone has it out for Evan, and is causing complications in his life. I had a feeling who was after Evan from early on in the book, but I still liked the mystery of the storyline, and was surprised how far the events actually went. I enjoyed Summer and Evan together; they were adorable! I do look forward to reading more by Dover, and although Lara, Summer's twin sister, didn't quite click with me, I'm interested to see how her story progresses, and I'd like to read the previous book about Kate and Cooper, so I'll definitely have to check them out!

    Love Summer & Evan

This is the 1st book of LP Dover that I've read. I really enjoyed it! I didn't want it to end! It's an love story with lots of twists and some suspense and angst too! Pretty perfect combination! I love Summer & Evan! Their story is one that I won't forget! My heart broke for Summer & everything she had to deal with in losing her MMA fighting husband. She thought that dating anyone in sports was out of the question until Evan! Their connection is awesome! I love their relationship, however, I found their relationship did develop rather fast. Summer is broken from her past! She's working hard to get over the death of her ex. She's very admirable in how she handles herself & how strong of a woman she is. Even is a dream! He's strong, protective, hot as hell & a great partner! My heart stopped a few times with the suspense & twists!! I wanted to reach in the book & help protect them from Summer's past!! I loved the end & can't wait for the next book! I will go back & read from the beginning of the series!

Every Girl Needs an Evan! 4.5 Stars!!

⭐ ⭐ Provided by NetGalley in Exchange for an Honest Review ⭐ ⭐ Judging a Book by it's Cover: Cover depicts a young adult couple in a sweet pose. Colors are a bit bland, leaving a washed-out, monochromatic feel to the upper half. Looking Deeper: Alternating first-person POVs, clearly marked and easy to follow. Surviving a brutal attack that left her husband dead, Summer is still struggling after years to join the living. With her deceased husband's brother, she co-owns a tavern / restaurant that was once Austin's dream. Evan is the brother of their neighbor and friend, he's an NFL player and has been crushing on Summer for a while now, but was advised to keep back. As they slowly and tentatively start getting closer, strange incidents begin cropping up. Danger escalates to deadly proportions. The lead characters have a beautiful compatibility. Every gal dreams of having an Evan in her life. Several of the secondary characters feel as though they are already established already with back stories of their own and history interwoven between them. I am reading this as a newbie to the author and the series and can confirm that although there IS a sense of history, CATCHING SUMMER does very well standing on it's own. I really enjoyed the natural feel to the dialogue and interaction, it played out realistically. The plot was engaging and dynamic with an easy moving flow. There were a few conflicts along the way, and they were handled relatively well. While our lead characters get their HEA in the end, I felt that there were several loose ends left untied... perhaps for a future installment in the series? What happened with Jax? What's Derek's outcome? What was Luke's big plan? While Ms Dover tried to keep us guessing until the final reveal, I sadly had the "baddie" pegged upon their second appearance in the book. I was a bummed in that, but it was still very well written and played out fantastically in the end. There was only one plot hole that I can think of... Evan told Summer she had to wait until it came out to know certain answers from his sports' magazine interview. We are never given those answers. Overall, yes... I would recommend this book. There's a bit of NFL football mixed with a nice contemporary romance, but just enough of an edge to earn a bit of Romantic Suspense to it's categories. A great cast of characters were brought to life with a rich and vibrant writing style. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rating: [R] ~ Score: 4.475 ~ Stars: 4.5 -------------------------------------------------------------------------
