    Donut Miss This Book!

Even though I knew to expect some heartbreak at the end of This is Dangerous (since it's book 1 in the duet), my heart still wasn't quite prepared. Though this is the 5th book in the Checkmate series, it can be enjoyed without reading books 1-4. I do recommend it though since characters from those books appear in This is Dangerous, and the main characters, Logan and Kayla, were previously introduced as well. Logan and Kayla's story was a slower burn than the previous books, but once it got going, I didn't want to put it down. It felt more raw and emotional, with both the hero and heroine dealing with the demons and baggage from their pasts. It was heartbreaking to see how broken and damaged they believed themselves to be and how this shaped the people they became. I think of all the Checkmate characters, Logan and Kayla feel the most real. They aren't perfect people. They have insecurities, fears, and are doing their best with their less than ideal circumstances. The slow burn friends to lovers really works in this book and I enjoyed the build up, innuendo, and angst. They have incredible chemistry and Detective Knight did not disappoint in (and out of) the bedroom. ;) Appearances by #TeamDrewtney and #TeamTraviola helped add to the fun and there are some incredibly hilarious text messages exchanged between our characters. I'm excited for the conclusion to Logan and Kayla's story in This is Beautiful and September can't get here fast enough!

    Something dramatic.....

I think I saw the train wreck coming before it ran full force. Wow that was one heck of a cliffhanger and I have so many questions! However it wouldn't be a Fox book without something dramatic happening! But Jesus ladies! You could have saved my heart a little! Kayla and Logan are back and forth, up and down kind of build up that is push and pull at it's finest. Logan has some pretty heavy demons that make him want to keep everyone at an arm's length away. Kayla doesn't even have to try to be irresistible, she just is. She's a do-gooder person, that is always volunteering one way or other. The thing that makes her so awesome is her love of dogs. I think she would adopt every one if she could. Her up bringing is what makes her want to save them after not being saved from foster care as a child. Both her and Logan are so broken that it's hard not to piece them together but they just fit. Logan fights as long as he can but he doesn't hold out long. I really think they hold the key for each other and it's hard not to want an happily ever after. This book draws you into their story and leaves you breathless with that off the tracks stop. I can't wait to read the other half of this couples story.

    Fabulously fun, sexy and sweet

Oh Logan, you are a dork, lovable but still a dork. Kayla and Logan are the single friends in their group of 6 and Kayla has always had a thing for Logan. But Logan, well, he has issues and insists on keeping Kayla at a distance. When Kayla needs Logan’s help out of crazy dog rescue situation, I really got to experience what Logan is trying so hard to fight. He is a complex man so as Kayla leans on him more in times of crises, he begins to open up to her and let her in. Kayla has a wonderful outlook on life, she works hard to volunteer and help others after growing up in foster homes. She just wants to find and give love and deep down knows Logan is the guy if only he would figure it out. This is a fun and funny journey as the walls are slowly broken down. Kayla has a knack for getting in crazy situations with the best intentions. I just had fun with the back and forth between these two. The ending has me anxious for book 2 of their journey.
