  • Brilliant story from ancient times

History springs off the pages of this enthralling series, but more than that: the characters captured my heart. This book has some of the best, most mesmerizing, agonizing, infuriating and beloved characters I have ever met in fiction. They trust in portents and visions, as people in ancient times did. The way they act is completely believable—sometimes they make mistakes and read the portents wrong. Sometimes they see through to the truth. I am so happy to find a new series I can dive into and immerse myself in. I have even dreamed of these people from time to time, and had my own adventures with them. In the first book we meet the characters when they are young. Aridela, the princess, chafes at her fate of becoming a priestess. She falls in love with a beautiful Greek boy from Mycenae, but he leaves her, and through that act, sets the stage for an incredible story. A prince from the mainland comes to Crete and achieves his secret goal, but for the wrong reasons. In the second book, the island of Crete is thrown into chaos through the eruption of a volcano. They don’t know what it is, though. They believe it’s the gods, raining vengeance upon them. In the third book betrayal is paramount—horrible betrayal between brothers, and trickery, and consequences I cannot imagine, but I can't wait to find out.
