  • Heart-pounding romantic suspense!

Chosen Prey by Cheyenne McCray is a compelling, edge of your seat read that highlights the power of people with delusions of grandeur that are unfortunately far to real and frighteningly dangerous. As this was an early work of Ms McCray’s, I reviewed it based on the fact that her writing has definitely grown and evolved over the years and become smoother and flowing as time has progressed. That said, this story still held my attention and I was eager to discover the final outcome of a young woman terrorised and pursued to distraction. It was interesting to read other reviews stating the story was unbelievable when Cults and their influential leaders have been illustrated in the media for many years, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. For me the story had depth and intrigue, along with danger, tragedy and romantic suspense to sustain the plot. There were a few instances where I felt that moment like in a movie where you go “Don’t open the door, you idiot”, but overall the storyline held up and the characterisations were strong and believable. The relationship between Dare and Lyra developed at a genuine pace and the support cast were equal parts corrupt and evil (those who pursued Lyra), and brave and vigilant in their quest to help Dare protect and defend Lyra as she attempted her mother’s rescue and freedom from Neil Barker and the Temple of Light. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and hope others will too.
