    An enjoyable Maine Cozy

I really liked this first book in this cozy series. The author does a good job of setting up the background and the characters for this series. Busman's Harbor sounds like a great place to armchair travel to in the summer. The mystery is good but Julia the amateur sleuth works more against the police rather than with the police. Enjoy this series.

    Outstanding

This books exemplifies the very best of the cosy genre with a fully here dimensional lead character and we'll developed secondary characters who all have complicated, sometimes messy and realistic lives. The author is particularly talented at setting the scene and depicting the scenery - almost painting her depictions of the town, the water and the way of life there. I felt like the community was a real place and the characters a real family. It wasn't cutesy though it has its charm and the mystery was a cracker too. The crime and its reasons and the person responsible came as mostly a surprise though I feel like it made perfect sense once I read to the end. I also like that the author didn't wrap everything up into a perfect bow. There will be lots of threads to unpick and or develop in future installments to be sure. I will definitely be getting the next in the series.

    Clammed Up

This is an ok novel. The food scenes were fun, but you cannot get local corn in Maine in June. It could use a little more suspense and a little less complsining by the heroine.
