This is my third reading and it is still a very good read. I will probably read it again soon.

Rich with detail and multifaceted characters

I love police dramas. I don’t care whether I’m reading them or watching them. Seeing these brave men and women in action, who are the thin blue line that stands between us and total chaos, is awe inspiring. This book really makes me think of Castle. (Minus the bumbling writer love interest.) There’s also a strong Criminal Minds feel to the story as well. Rich with detail and multifaceted characters, this is a complex and sinister plot that keeps Bridgette and her fellow officers guessing. This reader included. The dramatic roller-coaster ride starts from the opening paragraphs and takes off at a brake-neck pace, pushing me through so many emotional states I was left breathless at the end. There’s also an over-arching conspiracy that’s not wrapped up in this book, but I’m desperate to learn more about.

Who's Smarter? The Cop or The Killer?

Bridgette Cash is a rookie detective, being trained by Detective Lance Hoffman, who's set for retirement in 3 months. What Bridgette is finding out is that Hoffman doesn't particularly like women, he's rude and overbearing and opinionated. The finding of a woman's body is Bridgette's first murder case. She believes this is the work of a serial killer. She only has to convince Hoffman and their supervisor. But no one seems to be listening. Feeling that this killer is not done, she's digging deep to find the evidence she needs to prevent another murder. No one has ever run up against a killer like this one. He plans and plans and rehearses... he never leaves a clue ... and he never takes anything with him he won't use. It takes the rookie cop to put together a profile and find something that everyone else has missed. It becomes very personal when the killer turns his attention to Bridgette.... Bridgette's father was a Homicide Detective. Twenty years ago, her father murdered her mother and then disappeared ... at least that is what is believed. Bridgette wants the truth about what happened .. only the police file is missing. Can Hoffman be trusted? He was friends with her father ... but does he know what really happened? and where her father went? The two story lines blend well together, but be forewarned. One of them reaches a semi-conclusion and the other is a cliff hanger. Books 2 and 3 are available now with more to come to the series. I like knowing I can continue without waiting for the next book to be published. This is action-packed with great characters. I like the interaction between Cash and Hoffman and how they slowly come together to work as a team. Many thanks to the author / Booksirens for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
