  • COLD CONVICTION by Daryl Wood Gerber

COLD CONVICTION by Daryl Wood Gerber is the third book in the Aspen Adams series. It’s the story of Aspen Adams using her private investigator skills to try to help her sister, Rosie, find peace and once and for all clear her of any wrong doing in their parent’s deaths. Maybe if they can figure out what really happened 14 years ago when their parents were murdered, it will help in her to recover from her drug addiction. While a college student then, she is now a mature adult. It’s time to return - to find answers and take the steps to settle the estate by clear out the storage unit by disposing of its contents one way or the other. Aspen and boyfriend, Detective Sergeant Nick Shaper, head back to Aspen’s hometown of Atherton. Being a cold case that stumped the police all those years ago, the best Detective Sergeant Quincy can do is direct them to Elton Evers, the well respected and retired detective that was originally on the case who now lives in nearby Napa. The case being unsolved had always bothering Evers. Being a stickler for details, he was wealth of information on the investigation from back then – photos, notes, evidence – all of which he had copies of and more than willing to share with Aspen. At least they had a direction to start with going forth in their investigation. Unfortunately, Nick is called back to Tahoe on first a family emergency and then for a case at work leaving Aspen to research clues and figure out truth from lies on her own. Talking with old suspect trying to get a feel for whether their story was true or not must have rattles someone’s nerves because Aspen finds herself being followed, threatened in phone messages and unsigned notes on her car, and even accosted at gun point at her rental home only to be saved by Nick’s unannounced visit. Not to be deterred, it just makes her more determined to find answers. Things get even more serious when suspects she’s been in contact with start to drop one by one. Accident or murdered? Along the way, Aspen has to contend with an ex-husband that keeps showing up begging forgiveness. Then finding out that a friend is dating him knowing events of the past. She is more than ready to turn loose of the past because her present and future lays with Nick and being guardian to her niece Candance. Will Aspen’s murder board bring clues to the forefront? Are Aspen’s questions getting close to having answers? Can Aspen put all the pieces together like the many steps in figuring out her Grandmother’s puzzle boxes before harm comes to Aspen herself? Will there be any clues in the boxes in storage? Can the answers bring some healing to a family torn apart by a tragedy years ago? Will the “treasure” many seem to searching for ever be found or was it all smoke and mirrors? What does the future hold for Aspen and Nick? Don’t worry if you haven’t read the first two books in the series, COLD CONVICTION can definitely be read as a standalone. However, prepare to fall in love with Aspen and the other characters in the book which will have you searching out the other books in this series. COLD CONVICTION is a fabulous, well-written mystery that will have you starting your own murder board as you take the twist and turns of the story trying to figure out the whodunit along with Aspen. Love Daryl Wood Gerber’s book and this one just added to my list of awesome books she has given me great pleasure in reading. Highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys mysteries, stories with heart or just a great book!

  • Twisty, Confusing and Excellent

We’re back with PI Aspen Adams. This time the case she takes on is personal. The case that has never been solved. Her parent’s murder. Fourteen years ago, her parents were murdered in their own home. Aspen was away at college but her sister Rosie found the bodies and was looked at as a suspect for a while. Rosie is an addict. She’s stolen from them before, but why kill them? Rosie is not my favorite person. Aspen is also raising Rosie’s daughter. So when Rosie calls and begs her to find out who did this, she does. She goes home and starts asking questions. People begin to act strangely and she has quite a few possible suspects. But in the end, will she live to prove who was really guilty? I loved this one. It was twisty, confusing, and action-packed all the way to the end. And no, the one person responsible wasn’t even on my radar! So, good job! NetGalley/ October 27th, 2020 by Beyond the Page

  • Good murder mystery

Good mystery, well rounded characters, some likable, some not at all. This is the third with the character Aspen as the lead, I had not read the previous books and can say this is definitely readable as a stand alone. Well written tightly woven story as Aspen attempts to solve her parents murders after 14 years as a cold case. Lots of suspects, lots of suspicious activity going on around her, it was hard to put down wanting it solved. Recieved an ARC for a voluntary review.

  • This series gets better with each book

Aspen Adams lost her parents when she was a freshman in college, victims of a murder that was never solved by the police. When Aspen’s sister Rosie shares some new details with her, she agrees it’s time to begin her own investigation into the case. Back in the Bay Area memories and emotions come flooding back and Aspen is hoping to find that one missing clue that will help her solve the case so that she and Rosie can move forward. This series has been solid since the first book was published and yet manages to get better with each and every knew book that is published. The author is very talented and I read all of her other series as well. You will not be disappointed with any book by Daryl Wood Gerber, so dig on it and enjoy the other offerings she has as well.

  • So good!

I was drawn to Cold Conviction because I am a fan of Daryl Wood Gerber books. I have read several of her books. I also was drawn to Cold Conviction because of its ominous-looking cover. I have read the first two books in this series, and I am a huge fan of the Candace character. The author is skilled at creating believable characters, exciting storylines, and incredible settings that have the reader right in the middle of each scene. The Aspen Adams series is highly engaging and always keeps my interest. The storylines are true to life and suspenseful. I highly recommend this book and this series. #ColdConviction #NetGalley
