    Concealed Power

SPOILER ALERT: There are spoilers towards the end of this review. REVIEW: The premise of this book is sound. Some gifted women of a society recovering from recent civil war have the magical ability to heal. The world is imaginative and fairly well laid out. The problem is the writing. I feel like this book has not been past an editors desk. This would have immensely improved it. There are grammatical errors, typing errors (which even a proofread, edited book can still have) and poor story telling. The story in fact a compelling one. The problem is that EVERYTHING is spelled out to the reader. It is as if a child wrote the story and explained everything to their friend. There is no room for a readers to reach their own conclusions from the author's clever insinuation. The read can derive no (conceited) delight in "figuring out" what the author is going to do next since it is starkly laid out in black and white. SPOILER ALERT: Yes the twist involving the King's court threw me, I didn't see it coming. But all the while I was lead to believe that the protagonist would escape. There were no flags cleverly inserted earlier in the plot that I could look back on and say, "Ahh! Now I see why the author wrote that!" There was only the plain statement, "This matter must be heard and ruled upon by the King." SPOILER OVER. Personally, I don't like things shoved in my face like I'm a child. I'm not reading a children's book and can actually make inferences based on implications by an author. Please give me some credit! In the end, I liked the character enough to want to finish the story. She is a strange little one and has some strange ideas about people and how they should behave, but partly this can be blamed on the writing. All told the story's good but this edition should be considered a draft.
