    Uplifting story of new beginnings!

Sometimes you just need a great story that tugs at the heartstrings without all the unnecessary drama or redundant sex scenes. Cottage by the Sea by Debbie Macomber fills that need once again and she gives us a beautifully told story that not only warmed my heart but it filled my soul as well. Her prose is wonderfully crafted and the woman she created in Annie Marlow becomes a bit of a savior for the small town of Oceanside, when in fact, she was the one who initially needed saving. Her life is turned upside down in an instant and the peace and respite from her grief is found where she always found a bit of happy as a youth, by the beach. As Annie becomes a fixture as the new Physician's Assistant at the clinic in town, we get to see her change not only her own life once stuck in misery, but of those who just needed a friendly touch that she could only give. I liken Annie to a modern day hero as she gets Seth Keaton to smile a bit more, gets Mellie Johnson to actually talk to people again and rescues a family from abuse just by being there. Her fated relationship with the gentle giant in Keaton is at times frustrating but Annie's patience and understanding of his hesitation only made me love her more. I was in awe of the way she could solve an issue even when ill-prepared and how she fought for the strangers who with time, became family. This is the kind of story that simple makes you feel good! There is the requisite amount of angst but there is so much love and respect to soften the misunderstandings that plague Annie and her newfound friends as they get to know one another. Keaton is quite the man, his silence a protection from what he suffered at the hands of his father. But his heart is overflowing with the need to help others and there was no way Annie could help herself from falling for him. I adore him and was more than happy to see him finally coming out of his shell. I am always thrilled to lose myself in Macomber's words since they have a way of being the ultimate balm when life gets a bit too crazy. Cottage by the Sea is simply divine and I am delighted to give it a solid 5 stars!

    Cottage by the Sea

This book is well written! I found that the contents would appeal to a reader of perhaps 20. Being I’m old, It was like a romance story that I couldn’t connect with.

    Amazing

I thought this was an amazing story. It is a tale of heart wrenching loss, grief, starting over, and learning to live again. A year after suffering an unimaginable loss people are trying to get Annie to move on and get on with her life. That's easier said than done when everything around you reminds you of those you lost. It wasn't until Annie decides to return to the one place that holds most of her fun childhood memories. The quaint little beach town and the loving yet quirky residents are just the balm her heart and soul needed. Now can she open her heart and love again? Of course the writing is exceptional with this one and the characters are nothing less than memorable. Put this one on the must read list. I highly recommend it.

    Beautiful tribute

March 22, 2014 in Oso, Washington an entire hillside collapsed taking 49 homes and 43 lives. This is the backdrop for Debbie Macomber’s newest stand alone, a tribute to the lives lost that fateful day. Annie Marlow’s life drastically changed one fateful Thanksgiving morning when word reached her that her family home, and entire family (parents, brother, sister-in-law, and 2 year old niece) had disappeared with the mudslide into the Sound. Annie wrestles with guilt for delaying her travels to Seattle, having opted instead to visit for Christmas. Her life suddenly seems void of purpose. Enter Oceanside – her happy place. Following her cousin’s advice, Annie finds Oceanside, the favourite family vacation spot of her childhood, is just the ticket to finding purpose again and moving beyond the grief of the past sixteen months. Supporting cast brings colour and entertainment into Annie’s life and she soon finds herself to be an invaluable community member, pouring herself into helping others. It’s a beautiful story of finding healing, purpose, and yes, even home. Every time I pick up a novel by Debbie Macomber, I know I will read a story that not only makes me laugh, and cry, but challenges me to think beyond the page. What is home? Where is my happy place? What’s my purpose in this life? Where is yours?

    Cottage by the sea

This was a charming tale which took you right to the sea. You could almost smell the beach and salt air yoirself. The characters are very unusual making it much more interesting. I wasnt sure how it would end but it was well done.
