    Absolutely thrilling

I have loved Terry Spears from the moment I started reading her books 📚. Her writing style is so amazing. I'm glad to see Sherriff Dan finally get a story of his own.

"Cougar Undercover" - Book 5 - Heart of the Cougar

I just finished reading this book September 24, 2017. This is my review. Well shoot. This is the lowest I've ever rated a book before. I was really looking forward to this book because it was Dan's story and we finally get to meet his secret female, Addison (Addie). Well, I guess this book just wasn't for me. I'm rating it 1.5 stars because I didn't really like the story line all that much but found the overall ending of the book to be just OK for me. Unfortunately, this book just didn't really hold my attention. I found myself stopping reading this book and going on to something else, then coming back to this one, read a chapter or two, then read something else...and so forth. And the book wasn't even that long, it's something I could have read in a night or two. Which really surprised me because I really enjoy Terry Spear's Heart of the Wolf series and I liked the other books in this Heart of the Cougar series as well. The prologue is very in-your-face. Fast. Lust at first site between Dan and Addie. It was actually kind of jarring. Just BOOM, they're together, contracted into a "fake but real" marriage. Addie is an FBI agent and she needs a "husband" to go on missions with her. It's a legal contract but other than on missions, they never see each other. They are not allowed to date other people/cougars while under contract but if Dan or Addie find someone they like, the contract is over and Dan and Addie will get a divorce. No questions asked. Dan agrees to this arrangement, hoping that their physical attraction to each other will one day bring them together. Then the story jumps 10 years into the future where we're told that they haven't spent a lot of time together, even had two years where they didn't have any contact, and all of a sudden Addie is being targeted by assassins. There's a mole on her team and she needs Dan's help to figure out why someone is trying to kill her. That's basically the story line of this book. To me, the whole "I need a pretend but real husband" thing just didn't work for me. If they were never seen together, why did he need to be her husband legally? It just didn't make sense to me. The whole skipping over 10 years of their relationship didn't work for me either. No matter how much Dan said he loved Addie, I didn't really feel it. In the prologue, Dan's reasoning for getting together with Addie is basically, "I'm a cougar, you're a cougar, we're both throwing off pheromones for each other, let's get naked and be together forever." All that just moved way to fast for me. The overall story line of who's trying to kill Addie was interesting but didn't really hold my attention. I found the story kind of flat, I guess. Anticlimactic. Also, the dialogue between the characters, I found, was stunted. They would be discussing one thing and then, all of a sudden, the character is talking about something else with no transition. Like person 1 saying "We'll meet back here in an hour." and then person 2 responding with "I'm going to go take a nap." One thing having nothing to do with the other. It just didn't flow well at some times. So yeah. I guess this book just wasn't what I thought it would be. I guess it just wasn't for me. I guess that's why it took me two weeks to finish this book because I have never NOT finished a book. I always finish reading a book, even if I'm not totally into it. Overall, this story just didn't hold my attention. Maybe I'll like the next book better. We'll see.
