  • Is anything as it seems?

Plenty of action in several foreign countries from Europe to the Middle East. There are some car chase scenes that would be amazing on the big screen. There were plot twists, and disagreements between various intelligence agencies. I was constantly trying to figure out if a character could be believed or not, or who had ulterior motives for their actions. I enjoyed how the author managed to work current events into the fictional story.

  • A global thrill ride

A global thrill ride as Justin and Carrie team with their UK and Chinese counterparts to prevent an international incident and thwart the assassination of the Russian president. As expected with an Ethan Jones novel, the action is non-stop, with secrets and double-crosses around every corner. Who really is an ally and who’s just an enemy in disguise? And can Justin and Carrie apprehend the right assassin before it’s too late? This book kept me anxiously flipping pages to see what would happen next and how it would end. I can’t wait to see where my favorite Canadian operatives end up next. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

  • Great character development

This is what, the 13th in this series. The characters have developed enormously since #1. Nice to see Justin and Carrie back after a break, (not knocking Javin!!). Good to see that the author recognises these developments and is re-writing book #1. Hey, I keep asking, but how about Justin and Javin together? They both work for CIS after all!!

  • Covert Assassin

Covert Assassin Book 13 Having read the 2 novellas plus all 14 Justin Hall Novels and the three Carrie Chronicles I believe I can say that I have become an avid fan of both the Justin Hall and Carrie Chronicles series. In Covert Assassin, Hall is assigned to locate a rogue British Agent but quickly finds that there is more to this task than first thought. His investigation leads to a plot to assassinate the Russian President forcing him to align himself with a Chinese agent against his better judgement. Can he stop the looming war between England. Russia and China? The novel is fast paced with twists and turns that makes the reader wondering what is coming next. Jones has developed the Hall character steadily over the past 14 novels and continues to hone his skill as a great story teller . And while each book can be read as a stand alone novel I have found that when a reference is made about a previous operation I enjoy knowing what that was all about. From my experience this tale as well as others in this series could be taken from real world events. Some of the graphic details may be too much for some readers given the story's occasional graphic realism. The climax to Covert Assassin leads to Hall’s girlfriend Karolin teaming up with both Justin and Carrie for their next adventure to save the world from the bad guys. I think that Covert Assassin is a novel that Justin Hall fans will find difficult to put down. Coming from Canada I truly appreciate the Canadian flavour that Jones injects into his novels. 5 stars out of 5

  • Action packed

There is lots of action going on, and I'm always wondering who's really trying to help and who is not. You just never know. Another great story by Ethan Jones.
