    Cowboy The shadow-Keepers Series, #3

I loved some of the dialogue between the characters and internal conversations and snark. There was a lot of explanation due to this being a third book in the series, however it is a story standing alone. Be prepared for surprises and twists. The opening tells us about Cowboy's beginning—just when you think you know what's going on—you don't. However, the author does catch us up introducing necessary info and characters. Bad Ass Immortal meet bad ass lady cop—lady might be exaggerating. Everybody loves a bad boy with a heart—especially when they profess not to have one. Beth likes him because he doesn't have one and there is no time in her life for a guy—sex yes—great sex—for sure. Enter Jess who fits the bill. They both fight the real bad guys, however on different planes. While adding protecting their hearts, Jess realizes immortality has definitions. He may live forever just not necessarily here. A choice made in the past to save another side of himself, and the woman he loves has come back with consequences unforeseen. Because of these and to protect the daughter he loves, he gave up her mother to his other half and works for the little girl's love. For a man who believes himself unworthy of love, there are a lot of people who care and want to save him. Is Beth one of them? Can they both get past their determination not to feel and fall in love? It could be very important in so many ways. If you like surprises, fun sassy dialogue, strong stubborn people and glimpses into a dark side you'll love this one.

    Loved, loved, loved!

Cowboy by Jess T. Ward I received this book from eBook Discovery in exchange for an honest review. Not having read the previous books in the series I was very confused as the classification of Paranormal Romance but then in Chapter 9, everything made sense. With Jess’ terrible start in life the emergence of Sundown as his alter ego is believable – losing the only person who had ever loved him at such a tender age, having his father try to kill him, being of mixed heritage it is no wonder he needed a stronger less emotion-based side to get him through. Absolutely loved the interplay between Jess and Sundown which perfectly reflects the light (his mom) and dark (his dad) elements of his childhood. Enter Meg! I found the innocence of Meg and the darkness of Jess to also be reflective of the light and dark of Jess and Sundown. Meg makes him believe that he can have a different life, is deserving of love and has the ability to choose a different path. Such irony that the man who inspired Jess to change his life as a youngster is the same man who brings his life crashing down around him. Many, many years later enter Beth. Strong, independent and determined not to have Jess complicate her life in any way. I found that Jess’ and Beth’s strengths and vulnerabilities complimented each other perfectly. Loved the complexity of both Beth and Jess. Can’t wait to go back to the beginning and read the whole series.
