  • Brilliant series with believable history

An excellent series, loved every minute of it. Characters and historical setting very well portrayed and realistic, believable and consistent. The only problem I had was a slight doubt about the matches! Magnificent work!!!

  • My favorite

I love this story, it is by far my favorte I have read this book many times now. Although I wanted to leave a review because I wanted to let people know that the description states that this book is the 4th book in series, but it is infact the first. Excellent book, a must read!

  • My expectations were disappointed

I was looking for a romantic and adventurous novel with a strong female protagonist and a friend recommended this book. The premises were excellent: Claire looked really strong and smart, a touch of fantasy with the time travel, thrilling historic setting, and Scotland. But... The narration in first-person usually means a strong look into the character’s feelings, emotions and thoughts; but here she merely tells what is happening, with very few glimpses at her feelings - surprise, fear, delight, love, hate, desire etc - so that I simply cannot sympathise with her. She's very good to adjust quickly to the situation, showing cleverness, but then all of it goes out of the window when she decides to go on the run with no money, no horse, no food, and not even a precise idea where the place she arrived is located or if she actually can go back to her time. Worst of all is when her so far nice husband Jamie Frazer whips her with his belt to punish her for disobeying him, or he'd lose face with his clansmen. This was the undoing of everything and I stopped reading, disgusted. I don't care if this was the custom of time and place: this is a novel, for heaven's sake, and the author could choose to make Jamie fake the punishment - no one would check on them after all. But no, the punishment took place in full. And after this, she will nevertheless fall in love with him? No way. Sorry, I have an issue with violence presented as normal or acceptable. If you don't, then you can read this book. As for me, I'm done with it, the series and the author.

  • A good holiday read

The time travel that attracted me to the book is really only a small part. The life in 1700s is the more dominating point. The story was good, entertaining and interesting. The author was, where possible, historically accurate. I've downloaded the second one. Not worried if I read it or not, however this first book was very enjoyable fog a holiday read.
