Faith Hunter's best Jane Yellowrock novel yet!

Jane Yellowrock, Cherokee skinwalker, is always ready to defend her friends, her family, and her city. In this latest installment of the Jane Yellowrock series, Jane is up against even bigger forces than before. Jane and her team - and the whole city - are in grave danger, but to figure out what to do about it, they must spend time delving into Mithran history. As with her other novels, Faith gives us more glimpses into the past and inner workings of Mithran society, while at the same time raising new and interesting questions about the supernats in Jane's world. In addition, Jane embarks on new levels of self-discovery. As I have read through the Jane Yellowrock novels, I have gotten to care more and more for the main characters. I love how character development progresses right along with the action in the story, so that the readers are brought to greater insight about the protagonists. I was left at the end of the book feeling utterly satisfied, yet at the same time breathless for the next installment in the series. Bravo to Ms. Hunter for a fantastic read! Reviewer's note: I received an ARC of this novel, but am not being compensated in any way (other than by the great enjoyment reading the book brought me).

Bolts out of the gate and never looks back

Our favorite badass Cherokee skinwalker and shapeshifter, Jane Yellowrock, is back for another action packed installment in this series. Remember reading about the big, bad, and spooky things in her vamp boss Leo's basement in past episodes? Well, get ready to get up close and personal with with the newly escaped and very peeved Son of Darkness who is not at all happy about his long imprisonment spent chained to Leo's dungeon wall. The SOD carves a bloody swath through NOLA's human citizens as he seeks blood to heal and leads Jane/Beast on their most dangerous hunt yet. Accompanied by Yellowrock Security partner Eli and his brother Alex on intel, Jane fights a desperate battle against time, intrigue, and vampire politics to find the SOD and stop the body count from rising even higher. Brewing in the background is a potentially catastrophic international incident with the European vampires regarding the disposition of the SOD that could cause an all out war with the American Mithrans. Closer to home, the brutal attacks and resulting deaths are causing public unrest and protests from angry, frightened humans. It won't take much to set the gathering protesters to violence against the Mithrans. As these dire events unfold, Jane is also learning to balance her new understanding with Bruiser with both their respective responsibilities. She is not used to having a partner or family, but seeing her growth as Bruiser and the Younger brothers become these things is truly wonderful. Some of the secrets Jane uncovers in her investigation spark her continued internal struggle with her own heritage. We get some really interesting foreshadowing in her evolving relationship with Leo, the Master of the City of NOLA and many of our favorite characters from past installments have pivotal roles as the action builds to the climax. Another thoroughly satisfying yarn form a darned good author. Great action throughout, personal growth, deadly weapons, tender moments, and scary dangerous foes will keep you reading long past your bedtime.

    No sleep for anybody

As long as I've been reading the Jane Yellowrock series Faith Hunter as never let me down. Each and every book filled with excitement and kickass action, Dark Heir is no different and I don't know how she keeps doing it. This time Jane goes up against probably the biggest, baddest, most powerful creature yet. The book starts off with action and never really slows down. Jane, Eli, and Alex don't get much sleep and neither did I because once I started I couldn't put it down. Jane has to deal with one of the most powerful Vampires that's ever been undead, her friend Molly who still doesn't have full control of her magic, angry police frustrated because they can't protect the humans, angry citizens wanting to kill anything not human, and worst of all Vampire politics. She gets closer to understanding herself and Beast a little more and also finds out information that makes her feel better about her future. She does get just a little down time with Bruiser which made me happy. Bruiser has been my favorite man in her life since the very beginning. I think if you haven't been a Bruiser fan before now this is the book that will change your mind. Faith Hunter is one of the few authors who can write sex into a book but not overwhelm the book with it, she knows how to get the mix just right. One of my favorite things about Bruiser is that he's always let Jane be Jane, never trying to change her and never trying to coddle her but just stepping back, supporting her and waiting in case she needs him, then he's there for her. This was one of my favorite books in the series and as always just makes me want more.

Another Action-filled Romp with a Kick Butt Team!

Dark Heir starts off with action, carries the reader throughout with action and excitement while Jane Yellowrock and her Yellowrock Security team chase down a killer vamp through New Orleans while trying to keep the human population calm. Supernatural events and creatures fill this episode in the Yellowrock series and each one provides mysteries and action! Jane and Beast must pinball between Vamp HQ, NOLA law enforcement, PSYLED's wolf were who's also on the trail of the villain vamp to get the job done. Even the newest Honorio, Bruiser gets into the fray, showing remarkable balance between warrior and Jane's "something". The characters in this urban fantasy world continue to develop their depth and personalities while taking the reader through a "edge of your seat" romp. Sit down, strap in and enjoy the ride.
