    An Amazing Story!

A fast paced adventure that captures the essence and traditions of ancient Ireland. I was grabbed by the Prologue and could not put it down until I turned the last page. York's well drawn characters easily come to life and the descriptions make you feel part of the story. This is the tale of two people who were betrothed as children in the hope to unite their clans. Brighit of Clan Cruadhlaoch grew up with a father and brothers who indulged her free spirit and taught how to fight, hunt and ride like a man. Her soon to be husband, Darragh of Clan MacNaughton has been trained to one day be king like his father although he has no ambition to take that place. As the time draws near and Brighit and Darragh are to be wed, Brighit worries that she will lose all of her freedom and be made to only act as a lady and no longer have her adventures. But as fate often steps in, an adventure goes wrong right before the wedding and she is forced to keep secrets from her husband. Mystery, murder and strong emotions abound that will have you holding your breath until the last page to find out what happens. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone, although I do want to read the first two books. Ashley York is a new author to me and I am so glad to have found her and intend to read everything she has written!!

    Loved it!

Daughter of the king by Ashley York is Book Three in "The Derbfine series. This is the story of Brighit of Clan Cruadhlaoch and Darragh of Clan MacNaughton. I have read (and loved them) the previous books in this series but feel this can easily be a standalone book. Darragh and Brighit. have been betrothed since their birth. Although since they were not neighboring clans they didn't see each other much growing up. Brighit when she was younger and learned of the pending marriage was happy because Darragh was good looking and thought he might be there for her when other teased or picked on her but she soon learned he would keep his distance from her and they never really interacted. So in the present day when it is nearing time that they marry Brighit has not wish to do so and really doesn't get a long with him. Brighit had taken to being a Warrior and Darragh the times they did interact he was always trying to control her and her actions. Darragh is aware that Brighit perfers to act a a boy warrior but he feels drawn to hear and besides he wants to do his duty in marring her. But the are only married a matter of hours before things start to go South and they will have to start to learn to trust each other to get their happy ending. This was a hard to put down book for sure....loved it!

    Derbfine third in series

Once again the reader is transported to time of long ago with Brighit of Clonascra and Darragh of Drogheda . So enjoyed the setting characters with storyline and suspense that the pages just kept turning. Find a comfortable chair and settle in for another excellent take in the Derbfine series. So Authors copy with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
