  • A nice Light Novel that can be enjoyed by anyone

The Great: The mapmaking parts are more interesting than I expected. A large part is due to the intersection of how politics such as territory disputes and taxation center around mapking. This puts Unen (the titular mapmaker) in many situations where she's not sure who she can trust. I also like the contrast between how young Unen felt, yet the world around her felt mature. It hits home how small Unen is in the big world, but I want to root for her too. The prose is slightly more robust than most light novels I've read, but still not overwhelming. Especially compared to Western fantasy books. This book is not overly tropey, which means you can share it with non-weeb friends should you desire. Not so good: It took awhile for the side characters to grow on me. I didn't really care for them until near the end. The beginning first few pages felt clunky to me. It gets better though. Overall: Can't wait for part 2!
