    Emotional Baggage & Therapy

After the last installment, Jason, I was ready to give up on this series. But after reading several reviews, I decided to give it one more try. And while I am happy that we have gone back to more of the zombie raising and Federal Marshall stuff, there was still a lot of therapy and emotional baggage to be found in this book. Is it wrong to say that I miss the old, emotionally stunted Anita and this new self aware one just makes me tired?

    Dead Ice

More of the same... lots of repeat back story and it feels like filler. Boredom set in at certain descriptive of past events and the sex was boring. Very little to see here. I was unimpressed by the plot. Very predictable. And further, I'm sick of the "difficult" interplay and unreasonable scenes where 15 people try to work out a dynamic for relationships in front of an audience. It's one thing to have the difficult intimate discussion but another to be watched doing it

    Meh, it is okay.

I have been an avid fan of the series for a long time and it hurts me to say that this book was just average. An easy 100 pages are just repetitions of prior books and summaries of character descriptions. I was amazed that there weren't any big graphic sex scenes. The main story line was good, just not as creepy as the other books. There was a lot of emotional baggage dealing with the poly side of things which added another 100 pages to the story. Overall, the book was solidly average and left me disappointed.

Title could have been something else, it just doesn't completely capture the book.

Anita is still my hero! Luv the interplay with her & Nicky. Asher was good as a "sucker for love" in this book. There should - could be more with the Harlequin guards. I feel more story could be formed.

    Loved it!

I'm a huge fan of the Anita Blake series and have yet to be disappointed. Even with the metaphysics and paranormalities, most of the characters are still relatable with their human emotions and complications. I know some readers do not like how much sex is in this series, but reading it from the beginning shows how integral it is. This isn't a paranormal romance with sex as the added bonus, it's literally part of who the characters are. Plus these books are more than that, the lead character is a strong female who is imperfect and doesn't always save the, but that's what make it more real, more engaging, more relatable. Reading about how these characters live and grow is like catching up with an old friend everytime a new book comes out. I can't wait to see what comes next.
