Another great read from Misty Evans!

Another book by Misty Evans that pulls you in from the first page and doesn’t let you go until the end. With the backdrop of wildfires and a psycho from Emma’s past that has escaped prison and may be coming for her, Deadly Attraction has all the action and romance that I have come to expect from the author. Both Mitch and Emma are a bit broken inside from events in their past. They have both thrown themselves into their work to help keep the past at bay, especially around the Christmas holidays. When Mitch is asked to check in on Emma on his way to investigate the wildfires, his simple task of getting the good doctor to a safe house turns into a protection assignment when Emma won’t leave her ranch – not just because she has animals to take care of, but because she refuses to be victimized by anyone again. These two definitely had sparks from the moment they first met, but what I think I enjoyed most was watching them try to figure each other out. Emma’s background as a forensic psychologist gives a natural play to her wanting to figure out what makes Mitch the man he is, but I really enjoyed watching Mitch turn the tables on Emma to find out more about her and her past. I also loved that these two realized just how broken they both were and recognized that sometimes the “broken” can’t be fixed, sometimes it just needs to be accepted, and that maybe together they could help with some of the healing. This suspense-filled plot is filled with some great twists and turns and also features some pretty colorful, and even bizarre characters. As with the other books in this series, Evans delivers a story that is a bit dark and edgy, so it works perfectly as the next installment. The bad guys are not just bad, they may be certifiable or perhaps genius, which helps keep you guessing at what is going to happen next and just who may be involved in the plot. There weren’t many supporting characters in this one, but each character played a role in telling this story. I loved Emma’s ranch hand Will and his protectiveness of her and watching him fight some of his ghosts from his past. And of course the animals – from getting to watch the birth of Second Chance’s foal Hope, to Salt and Pepper, Emma’s two dogs, to all the other animals that made the ranch their home…just love those animals! Once again I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a good mystery, psychological thriller, or suspense with a nice dash of romance thrown in.

    Can they both move on?

Mitch is still mourning his brother's death 5 years later. He is at the cemetery and gets a call that he needs to get someone moved to a safe house. Emma has rebuilt her life after her devastating loss 2 years before, now her past has come back to cause problems. When Mitch shows up to have her go to a safe house, she refuses. She will never be a victim again. Mitch is forced to protect Emma at her house because she refuses to leave and there is a fire that has everyone evacuating so there is no way to get out. Emma realizes that Mitch has problems that even she, as a psychologist, won't be able to heal. They have that in common. Will he be able to catch the people that he is after and protect her?

    A Thrilling Must Read!

Deadly Attraction: SCVC Taskforce Book 6, by Misty Evans, is absolutely spell binding, edge of your seat reading. To label this book as romantic suspense really doesn’t do it justice, as the intensity reads more like a thriller, minus the gore and loaded with romance. This is the story of two troubled souls that come together over the Christmas holiday due to dangerous circumstances. National Intelligence officer on loan to the SCVC Taskforce, Mitch Holden, in the midst of an arson investigation is given the temporary assignment of rescuer. He is already in the area of the wildfire so he expects to swoop in and haul the intended victim to a safe house and get back to the business at hand. Forensic Psychologist, Dr. Emma Collins, however, has other ideas and refuses to go quietly. Much to Mitch’s consternation, Emma stands her ground and refuses to leave her farm, and Mitch ends up playing full-time bodyguard to a woman as stubborn as she is sexy to him. The chemistry between Mitch and Emma sizzles from the start, as does the sexual tension, as these two clash continually over Emma’s determination to stay put in the face of danger. This is not your typical holiday romance, as Christmas only stands as a reminder of all these two souls have lost, so there is no Christmas cheer in this one. There is however humor dashed in amongst the suspense, and I laughed out loud several times at the witty banter between the hero and heroine. Fortunately, Emma sees Mitch’s snarky comments and standoffish attitude for the defense mechanisms they are, and values the man underneath the protective layers he’s built. Having a degree in the field myself, I’ve found some authors fall short when trying to craft a genuine character who is a psychologist, but not so with Ms. Evans design of Emma. I also liked that due to her own experiences, Emma can see past traditional standards and realize that sometimes facing an issue head on is much harder than locking it away and going on as you are. Although Emma recognizes Mitch’s PTSD and knows he needs help in dealing with it, she doesn’t try to force him into making immediate changes that he’s not ready for. Ms. Evans has amazing insight into the human psyche and her characters have such great depth to them that you may have to remind yourself that they are fictional. I truly enjoyed reading how these two characters learned to deal with their issues and work together, in spite of their hardships, and realize even with, or because of, their flaws they just might be perfect for each other. This book is full of twists and turns I didn’t see coming. The plot is so well crafted that it truly is believable. I was so drawn into the story I literally could not put it down, and the housework went undone, and sleep became much less important than finding out what Emma and Mitch would face next. I loved how the plot was resolved, and especially liked the epilogue. I really enjoyed this book, as I have all of the Ms. Evans books I’ve read, especially the SCVC Taskforce Series. And even though this is part of a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. If you like this one, I suggest reading the others in the series as well. Misty Evans has crafted a real page turner in Deadly Attraction and I highly and enthusiastically recommend it. This is a keeper worth rereading. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

    Loved!

LOVED! This is a great series, and, even though each book is a stand alone novel, continues in this book with Mitch's story. Mitch is emotionally damaged by his twin brother's death and is planning on drinking through the Christmas holiday. Then he gets a call to rush to a doctor's ranch to protect her from a crazy killer that she was instrumental in convicting. Mitch isn't a bodyguard and has no interest in becoming one. His entire plan is to pick up Emma and deliver her to a safe house. Emma throws a wrench in that plan when she refuses to leave her ranch, horses, and patients. Protecting Emma on the ranch is a logistical nightmare and a wildfire burning out of control complicates things. Emma is just as damaged as Mitch is, but somehow their damaged parts seem to balance each other out. As they find each other, they try to stop a madman and his minions whose only goal seems to be terrorizing and killing Emma. This is a must read for fans of the genre. The author has long been on my must read authors' list and should probably be on yours too. This is a phenomenal book and, if not for her start in chick lit, would be serious competition for the current big thriller and mystery writers.

    Is it or isn't it

Deadly Attraction Misty Evans Another tension loaded story that sweeps you along until the very end because you just can't stop reading it. You think it is over and Emma is safe from the murderer, but maybe not and maybe it isn't him, but then again maybe it is. Mitch is drawn in as an unwilling bodyguard who is drawn to Emma. As danger gets closer to them can they agree that they need each other to protect themselves from the unforeseen danger and the growing feelings for each other? A well-written fast pace suspense which will keep you, as quickly as you can read, turning the pages. Misty Evans has once again given us a suspenseful read that will grip you all the way from the beginning to the end. I received an ARC and I voluntarily reviewed it.
