  • Friendship, Fortitude and Doing the Right Thing

I loved Emmy's determination to make a difference. How she goes about doing just that gets her into some difficult situations. London during the Blitz provides some gritty background. When faced with tragedy, Emmy's determination to do the right thing is heart-wrenching but proves her worthiness as a friend and value as an employee.

  • Delightful read

Loved this story. A feel-good gentle read which draws you into the middle of ordinary London life during the Blitz. Laugh out loud funny in parts. Though houses are burning, friends and family are posted far away and people are being killed by bombs all around, the aim is to Soldier On Regardless. The lead character (Miss Emmeline Lake) and her very best friend (Bunty) are a delight. Definitely 5 stars and read pretty much in one sitting.

  • Dear Mrs Bird

Story involves a young woman living in war torn London during WWII. It reads like an old censored movie.

  • LOVE

I adored this book from the moment I opened it. AJ Pearce managed to write a story with wit and humour while still accurately depicting the horrors of the war. I would recommend this book to anyone and am already looking forward to reading it for a second time.

  • Der Mrs. Bird

A simple story. I was utterly bored by the heavy use of capital letters not captivated by the story line and disappointed at the rather juvenile writing style. That said the plot did pick up slightly and in the end could rate it as a fill in story before going on to something better.
