  • "Dearest Ivie" - Book 15.5 in the BDB world

I just finished reading this novella April 05, 2018. This is my review. Yes, yes, this novella is labelled 15.5 in the BDB series, but if you've never read the series, you can absolutely read this novella as a stand alone. The story takes place in the BDB world, and some characters make a surprise cameo, but it's about two whole new and "separate from the Brotherhood" characters. So this novella is about two vampires named Silas and Ivie. Gosh it's so hard to say what this novella is about without telling you what the story line is. Here's a very general overview: Ivie is a nurse in Havers's clinic and is about 20 years past her transition (becoming a full vampire) whereas Silas is a vampire in his 300s, is rich and part of the glymeara (aristocratic vampires). They fall in lust at first sight...at least Silas does...Ivie is more skeptical when they meet. How can someone from the glymeara even consider going out with her? Their stations in life are just too different. And hence begins the romance of Ivie and Silas. There's a lot more than that to the story but if I told you, I'd ruin the whole thing. At first, Ivie came off as a little too "know it all" to me. I found her character a little abrasive. But as the story continues and their relationship evolves, her character became a lot more likable to me. I liked Silas's character immediately, although he doesn't do a lot of talking until about half-way through. I wish the story was longer, just to make their romance longer, and draw out the "meat" of their romance. This being a novella, obviously, their romance is fast. The...oh how shall I say without giving stuff away..."big obstacle" in their relationship comes fast in this story and it quite heartbreaking, really. The story moves quickly and is very well written. As in any J.R Ward book, a lot of colloquialisms are used and can (at times) slow your reading, just to make sure you're reading the sentence properly. Overall, I liked this novella in the BDB world. Short, sweat and to the point. I hope there are more novellas coming in the BDB world. I would definitely read them.
