    An unusual premise, interesting

As an avid reader of historical fiction, I was pleased to find this series. I read this book first, although it's #2 in the series. Overall, it's fine ... an unusual premise about alchemy; you don't really need to accept the premise that an elixir could be made to provide immortality, but that is the basis of the murders that take place. The book offers a glimpse into life in the 1600s, the smells and the filth, for example. Overall, this book was fine. Lawrence is not strong competition for other authors of this genre, such as Ariana Franklin, Paul C. Doherty, Ellis Peters, Charles Finch, or C.J. Sansom. But if you enjoy historical fiction mystery, this series might be on your list .. after reading all of the books by the more significant authors. KOBO offers nearly all of the books of such authors.

    Death of an alchemist

Well written. You don't want to put the book down. Great characters intriguing and you think the story is going one way and are pleasantly surprised by the twist and turns. Definitely a must read. Will not be disappointed.
