Less than the sum of its parts

Goodkind has taken two of his strongest Sword of Truth characters and sent them to spread the word of Richard's new world peace. Yeah, it really is a bit hokey, and considering the size of the old world it is a ridiculous premise. The writing, especially early in the book, is flat and simple, even more so than the original series, and sometimes completely lacking in craft. There is almost no humor; the main character, Nicci, has become much, much less complex and capable than she was; Nathan has become one-dimensional; and Goodkind has only one technique for intensifying plot: blood and gore. On the good side, two engaging new characters are introduced; this is offset by the flatness of important 0f transient characters. My problem is that I really care about these characters, so I want to read their stories. But if Goodkind really has lost touch with them, this series will fail. I'm crossing my fingers and ordering Book 2 soon.

    Deaths Mistress deathly boring

I found the storyline plausible and the characters believable, but the writing is simplistic and repetitive. I will not be following the series any further.

Enjoy the story and look forward to seeing the next chapters.

Liked it.will be waiting for the next adventure. Glad to be with familiar characters again and good story lines that keep the story of what happens after Richard saves the known world.

    Unimaginative

I am finding this book really hard to get into. The prose is very simple and the characters lack dimension. There is no mystery or guile to draw a reader in. Every move the characters make is predictable. This book seems geared toward young adult readers and is far from the caliber of story telling that Terry Goodkind had with his first series

    Death's Mistress

Good story but not the same high quality as the Richard Rahl novels. Characters, other than Nicki, were simplistic.
