    Fantastic

Since discovering Scarlett Cole a couple of years ago I have read every book she's written and she has yet to let me down. This book is another in a long line of fantastic reads from her. It's the third book in the Love Over Duty series but it is easily read standalone. As with the other books in the series it is action packed, has a romance that is sizzling, and definitely leaves you wanting more. Although we've met Cabe in prior books we really get to know him in this one and he is definitely worth getting to know. You don't want to miss this book. It is excellently written, has nail biting suspense, and swoon worthy characters making it an entertaining read. I highly recommend it.

    Great Romantic Crime Thriller

Deep Cover by Scarlett Cole is the third book in the Love Over Duty series. Being my first in the series, I did not feel I was missing any pertinent information. When relevant plot points from the other books are mentioned, they are summarized, giving first-timers the information they need. The Lucky Seven Casino is the epicenter of a rash of felonies including suspected kidnapping, possible human trafficking, and money laundering by Russian mob boss Sokolov. Executed by law enforcement, the investigation into these crimes includes the FBI and Eagle Securities. Amy works for the FBI. Cabe is an ex-Navy SEAL with Eagle Securities. Both are working on different angles of the criminal case and a dedication to doing the right thing, for all of the parties involved, was a priority. The team worked intelligently and well together, and it was clear they were all becoming great friends. I remained invested in the characters during the attempt to end these atrocities. Solving these crimes is personal. A past crime involving Amy's mother supports her drive to stop the female disappearance at the Lucky Seven. Cabe and his team have a similar investment. Sokolov's crime syndicate has directly threatened the lives of family members of the Eagle Security team. They possess equal justification to make sure the casino becomes crime free. Bringing the villains down became as essential to me as it was to them. Amy's father is a professional poker player, and her uncle runs a casino. Due to her resources, she has the skills to go undercover at the Lucky Seven to investigate the missing women. As Amy goes undercover as a card dealer, the stress builds. The owner of the casino, Faulkner, has charm but at the same time, he crosses a line that justifies caution and suspicion. In contrast, Amy's direct supervisor Ortega is respectable with Amy and the rest of the staff. Who is helping Sokolov launder money if anyone? Who is responsible for the missing women, the indecent boss or the moral one? These questions fuel the anxiety. Cabe and Eagle Securities focus their attention on the money laundering. Cabe attempts to befriend Sokolov while covertly searching for the money switches. Cabe and the team do their job well. Cabe's instincts and reactions are appropriate to what I believe an ex-NAVY Seal would be. He is protective and keeps his team, which now includes Amy, safe. I enjoyed Cabe but, his contribution is primarily guarding Amy's back. I would have liked to see Cabe play a more prominent role in the end battle, rather than just being Amy's knight in shining armor. Along the same lines, I felt an agent with Amy's qualifications could have needed less saving. I also sense Amy being more assertive in the face of danger would have made her more interesting. A dynamic involving a couple fighting together is a delicate balance. I still found their decisions sound and them both to be capable in their jobs. When reading romance novels, I am most committed when the plot surrounding the couple can stand on its own. I find that Deep Cover by Scarlett Cole was one of these novels. Having said that, the romance in Deep Cover was also quite captivating. The characters, for justifiable reasons, decided not to pursue their attraction to each other. In high-pressure situations, that only lasts so long. When they give in to the chemistry between them, it is explosive. Well done there. This relationship develops while they are getting to know each other without bringing sex into the equation. I welcome this method as it is more believable. I would recommend giving Deep Cover by Scarlett Cole a chance. The story will not disappoint.

    romantic suspense

3.75stars A romantic suspense love story between undercover FBI agent Amy and Caleb ex-Seal. It is an emotional story, especially from Caleb's side. It truly is heartbreaking what happened to him and because of that, he has reservations toward Amy. On the other hand, Amy is very attracted to Caleb but because of the scandal from the previous job she doesn't want to start a relationship with Caleb. Both Amy and Caleb are likable and greatly developed. I just wanted more interaction/action between them the story was more focused on the mission and not so much on the relationship. It is also great to see the characters from previous books. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley

    Romantic Suspense

Deep Cover by Scarlett Cole Love Over Duty #3 Have you ever wanted to BE the female lead in the book you are reading? I kind of wanted to step into Amy Murray’s shoes…well…perhaps not entirely but what a strong, competent, intelligent woman she was! She is definitely someone to emulate! And Cabe Moss? Well, he is a hunk and a half ex-SEAL who may appear cold but is definitely NOT! The two are drawn to each other from the meet-cute but for one reason and another (have to read the book…not telling you why) the two do not get together then and with a case to work together have to wait even longer than they might have wanted to before figuring out how to be together without jeopardizing their mission. I really enjoyed hearing about Amy’s father and uncle and how they pulled together to assist her and Cabe be the best possible undercover agents – under the circumstances. The insight into poker an gambling and how it might be used to make women disappear was fascinating, real and more than a bit unsettling. This was an action-packed romantic suspense with people I admired and could relate to and that I hoped would eventually end up together. I am not sure if there will be more in this series but with three teams of Eagle Security operatives it is entirely possible this won’t be the last book in the series though the founders of the company have met their mates. Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press and Barclay Publicity for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars

    Action and Intrigue

First off I need to say I haven't read the other books in the series so while I didn't know the entire story I was able to pick it up and not feel too lost. I love the two main characters Cade and Amy. He is every girls dream of course and full of yummy alpha male hotness and getting pass the loss of his fiance. Amy is reeling from fall out from a sexual harassment from her previous manager and out to prove she has earned her place in the FBI. I love that she is more than competent for the job and has tons to offer. The case is personal for them for various reasons and drives their success. Loads of action and intrigue make this a great read. The characters are carryover from the previous books in the series and storyline. There is enough here to get the idea of what happened in the previous books but still feel they need to be read to fully enjoy.
