    Depravity by M. J. Haag - I didn't like it at all

It's a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast, which is my favorite fairy tale plot, so this should have been a shoe-in. The biggest problem I had with this book is that it starts with a scene depicting coerced sexual activity (not quite rape, but the next thing to it). That's actually the worst it gets, although there's at least one near-rape scene. This may be some people's thing (Catherine Coulter is a huge romance author, and I've never read a book of hers that didn't have at least one scene that was rape at some level) but I don't want to read it. If it hadn't been for this factor, the story might have gotten two or three stars. The other problem is that the story is set in a vaguely medieval-ish setting, but the author's voice - and therefore the voice of the heroine, as this is first person - is entirely too modern, several times to the point of being jarring. The Beast is a jerk - he breaks promises, throws temper tantrums whenever he doesn't get his way, manipulates Beauty, and treats her poorly. This is not how the story is supposed to go - the Beast is supposed to be a good man trapped in a terrifying body. This is not a complete book - like many current "series", the primary story line is left at "to be continued" at the end of the book. But I'm not interested in seeing how this one plays out.

    WOW, WOW and WOW!!!

To say I loved this new retelling of Beauty and the Beast is an understatement. I've always loved fairy tales so when I stumbled across this book I immediately purchased it and started reading it. Two chapters in and I knew that I just had to share it on my blog. This author immediately captivates you in her magical and intriguing web with a well paced story line and filled with characters who are so in depth that you find yourself feeling like you know them on a personal level. Her imagination and perception of how this story should really be told is completely outstanding and this book deserves way more than five stars. I was completely consumed with this fascinating tale and I know that you will too. Please note that this retelling is for mature audiences only.

Great Twist on the Beauty and Beast Story

I was lucky to receive this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Depravity is a wonderful new twist on the Beauty and Beast classic! Beautifully written M.J. Haag tells her version of this classic story. I love the start and development of the Benella and the Beast relationship. Depravity will captivate you and keep you on your toes as the adventures of Beauty and her Beast begin. I’m very much looking forward to more of the story (Parts 2 & 3 coming soon). You won’t want to miss out on this adventure.
