  • Absolutely captivating!

Whenever I sit down to read a Rachel Van Dyken book, I know I'm going to be in for a roller coaster ride and let me assure you, Destructive King was exactly that! I had to hold on to my seat because there were definitely twists and turns abounding in this one!!! Ash is the son of Senator/Boss Chase and he's been an assassin since the age of 12. He's fully engrained in the life and he's known to be ruthless and cruel. He thought he had met the love of his life, Claire, however her untimely death has caused Ash to spiral. He's destructive and the person who is likely to get the brunt of that destruction is Claire's friend Annie. Annie is an orphan who has never had it easy. She saw too much as a young child and was abused as well. When she moved in with Chase and his family, she thought she had finally found the place she fit, but Ash's attitude toward her was nothing short of hatred and he had no problem telling her that. She left for a year and spent time abroad, but now she's back and Ash hasn't changed one bit, or has he? Things between Ash and Annie are anything but easy, however you'll be captivated by their story and all of the twists and turns it takes. I thought we were going one way and we went a totally different way and RVD has a way of making you shake your head and go "did that just happen!?" You definitely should pick up this title and if you haven't read the others in the Mafia Royals series, you should pick those up too!!

  • MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN!

OMG! Destructive King! The queen of mafia has done it again. A riveting, unputdownable story that keeps you on the edge of your seat! I was hooked from the very beginning. It kept me guessing, wondering, hoping....but in the end, you have no idea AT ALL! There is just something about the story that captivates your attention. The characters, their blood thirsty reactions, their unique sense of family. Every word, every moment strikes a chord. Their love for their family and the secrets they hold. OMG! And then..... MIND OFFICIALLY BLOWN! This book may be about Ash and Annie. It is so much more than that. So very much more.... Just go read it. You know you want to. Blood In, No Out!

  • Angst - Family - Violence - Betrayal - Courtship

"Sometimes you never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory" -Dr. Seuss What an emotional rollercoaster this series has been. Angst - Family - Violence - Betrayal - Courtship - Love It's not perfect. Just like life isn't perfect. The characters are flawed They stumble - They bleed - They hope I think that is what makes each journey so significant "You have. You love. You lose. And then you live." Ash is lost in a sea of anger. His world was ripped from his grasp. The other half of his soul and his unborn child were stolen from him. In his darkness there shines a light How dare she brightens his world Lightens his misery Forces him to feel To question To hope "And just like the rain, I fell" Annie just wanted to be more More than "the orphan " - the charity case Her mother told her she would be safe here She was wrong This was a two tissue box read The heart knows and Annie knew. Her life has been a warped version of hades since she could remember. She thought things were going to be different. I loved how she stayed true to her feelings even when they were not reciprocated. Yeah, a touch stalkerish but like calls to like and all that. There were a couple of scenes that threw me for a loop emotionally, enough that I either squeaked out or gasped loud enough to garner the attention of others who were in the room Wait till the why's of certain events are revealed - Holy Schznick!! The back and forth between her and Ash - that underlying chemistry that burned just beyond reach - Cosmic! Ash was so lost like most survivors he was afraid if he laughed, hoped, or lived it would be a betrayal to their memories. Instead of confronting his feelings and going through the steps of grief he pushed and pulled at those around him. Created targets for his pain, even if the reasons were merely manifestations of his own - a means to expel his pain. Now if the family can just reign him in before they are forced to put him down "Perfect. Wonderful. Actual unicorns stampeded out of my a#* as I drove here under a double rainbow and waved at a leprechaun." That above is what makes this series so enjoyable. The mix of ,IDK, common - relatable events - with what we expect from a mafia read - Blood blended with laughter - yeah it is a bit outside of the norm but not impossible

  • Angsty. Soul shattering. Heart stopping.

With each new story, Rachel Van Dyken is taking mafia romance to new and unparalleled level of perfection. Destructive King destroyed my heart and rebuilt with lethal brilliance. Angsty. Soul shattering. Heart stopping. Jaw dropping. Sensational. And going stright into my top 2021 list! Ash Abandonato is broken. Ruined. He lost his love and now he is on the path of demolishing himself and his family. But he is the king and his mafia family needs him. Annie Smith is the girl he hates with intensity of a thousand suns but also the girl who has a terrifying claim on him. Annie has given everything to the person she loves even when that person only tortured her. This is their messy and epic love story. First of all, the plot and storyline and the character arcs. MINDBLOWING PERFECTION. Just completely blinding beauty. Insane intricacies. Flawless execution. It was definitely a difficult task to give Ash his HEA with someone deserving while all of us were dying over his lost love. Second, lets talk about the feelings. Yes feelings. In every page, the author squeezed my heart, slashed my heart, broke it into pieces and I just wanted all the torture to go on and on. I begged for it. At the same time the story delivered the dark, violent, volatile and ruthless feels of mafia romance in spades. Third, the characters. I have no words. Just no words. Ash is such a terrifying and fascinating contradiction of soft and hard. On one side, he is the smiling devil. The smirking monster with blood lust, maniacal coldness and dominant extraordinaire. On the other side, he is the man who loves most fiercely, protects most loyally and feels most deeply. Annie was the light to his darkness. She has own demons, own battles, own scars and own pain. But this sassy and fierce and strong girl has the power to embrace Ash. To calm his storm and to claim his darkness. It was explosive. Messed up. And perfect. So perfect. Keep all your expectations and preconceptions about mafia romance outside while entering the world of Destructive King by Rachel Van Dyken. She is going to smash all your ideas and crush whatever you think you know. Be ready to be Dykenised. I reviewed an early copy voluntarily

  • Another Amazing Mafia Read by Rachel

There is nothing like getting lost in Rachel’s mafia world it is truly riveting!! If I could give Destructive King more than 5 stars I would. It was heart wrenching and heart warming all in one! Ash and Annie both grieving the loss of the loved one and friend Claire, even though dealing with her own grief Annie tries to help Ash. I absolutely love Ash and Annie and seeing the rest of the Mafia Family I have come to love. I loved Ash nickname for his dad chase :) There was so much tension throughout, but yet the next minute I was literally laughing out loud. It was truly gripping I could not put it down. It has been a while a book has captured me so hard and left me feeling SO much! And Oh my gosh this had an ending I never saw coming. You definitely want to read Destructive King! You won’t be sorry you did! But be warned you will be left with a major book hangover! Blood In, No Out!
