  • Another spell-binding medical thriller...

    P. D. Workman is one of my very favorite authors and never fails to provide compelling stories about interesting characters. In Doctored Death we follow Kenzie Kirsch, an assistant Medical Examiner, as she and her boyfriend, Zachary Goldman, a traumatized yet highly effective Private Investigator, follow the clues to unravel the mystery of how relatively healthy residents of an assisted care facility are showing signs of rapid-onset dementia only days before dying. Their investigation proves to be a bit tricky and, at times, dangerous. I enjoyed the medical mystery aspect of the story and, having long been a fan of the Zachary Goldman series, was delighted with the “crossover” between two of my favorite series. I can’t help but wonder where the author will take our intrepid investigators next. I was provided with an advance copy of this book for which I thank the author. My review, however, is voluntary, and reflects my honest and unbiased opinion.

  • Intriguing

Intense and fast paced. Medical Examiner Kenzie knows that there’s a big problem. Unfortunately no one believes her. How will this all end.

  • Fantastic read with all of the major bases covered

Kenzie Kirsch works at the Medical Examiner’s office. Not the most glorious job, but it’s the one she chose and she loves it. She hopes to be able to become a Medical Examiner someday but for now, she’s content to sit at her desk typing reports and making sure her boss has everything he needs to do the job he needs to do, that is- take care of those who have taken their last breath and make sure their families know why they died. Willis Cartwright lived at Champlain House until late one night, when He passed away with no warning. When Kenzie and her team were called in, everything pointed to natural causes. Everything, that is, except that he was in the ambulatory unit and relatively healthy up until a week before his death. But his brain showed otherwise. What on earth could cause a healthy man to deteriorate within a week and then suddenly collapse? Before they had answers, another elder had fallen and another case was waiting to be solved. Soon, Kenzie was feeling the heat from all sides, even her parents, as she worked hard to discover what might have happened to the patients at Champlain House. Could she find out fast enough to stop another death from happening? This book combines great technical medical details with detailed descriptions of the workings inside the relationship of a person with ADHD and his partner that struggles to understand and live with his disability. Throw in a medical mystery and you have all the makings of an edge of your seat thriller that will keep you up well past bedtime turning page after page.
