A new voice in the fantasy world!

This a complex series, even if it is only two books long. I loved the dark setting , as well as the many dark and dense characters which populate it. At times it can be a bit overwhelming, but that's the kind of fantasy I like. As for the additional novel included in the set: Bravo! Haliden's Fire was like reading an excellent action film. How many books follow a protagonist who is a failing artist? None. And that's what I liked most about this one. Haliden Stroke is a wonderful character who is forced to flee across a countryside as it burns all around him. I won't reveal anything else, but this one is a definite keeper. Over all, Sendrowski created a very original world described with a fresh new voice. I couldn't have enjoyed all three books more. Great work Mr. Sendrowski. I can't wait to see what you do next.

    A really amazing series

I picked this up for a beach read - I'm a nerd at heart - and was blown away by the story. I think I burned through all three books in about three days. The initial 2 book series is dark and violent, filled with scoundrels and thieves. But the main characters, particularly Michael Carter and Waypman Belnar, were really well fleshed out. Both are the fantasy equivalent of blue-collar workers just trying to make a living, when they get caught up in a war over a powerful, magical mineral. From their the story really takes off with tons of action and political intrigue. Even the ad-on book was a delight to read, as it dealt with the same world of Retrac Daor, which the initial two books took place in. Great read and I can't wait for the next series!

    Darkness and wonder

This is the kind of fantasy series I've searching for: gritty, dark and different. The author has created a world so deadly it gave me the creeps whenever he introduced a new horror to the tale. And what a tale it is! Even though it's only two books, this is one of the most exciting fantasy sagas I've read in the past few years. It's a no holds bar story with a rocket pace. I'm in Mr. Sendrowski. Hit me with your best shot... or next novel. An additional novel is also included in this set entitled Haliden's Fire. It's set in the same world as the series and is another example of this author's fresh new voice and writing skill. This box set is a worthy addition to my collection and Chris Sendrowski is an author I'll be recommending to my friends and family.

    A complex but outstanding story

I really enjoyed this set. It got a little confusing at first, as there are a lot of characters present. But once they all sunk in I was really swept away in the story. There's a lot of cool but frightening creatures in the wasteland which the first book is set and the ocean setting of book 2 was absolutely horrifying.

    Bleak fantasy at its best

This was one of those series that's hard to pin down. It's fantasy, through and through, but it also has very slight touches of sci/fi peppered throughout it. I didn't mind this, and in fact it really added to the freshness of the story. There's a lot here, though, including locations, cultures and characters, so be prepared to pay attention. It was a great story though and I would have given it five stars if not for the fact that it was only two books - the third book is a separate fantasy story set in the same world. Over all, though, this was solid fantasy and I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this author.
