    Typical read-till-dawn from Ilona Andrews

Another read-till-dawn from Ilona Andrews. Or at least, straight through to 3:50AM, according to my journal. When my nose is in a good book, I lose focus on almost everything else. And this one was goooood!

    Definitely fits

Loved it except the ending. Beautiful description. You can see the constructs and feel what they bring emotionally. The connection between the main characters is very apparent and I liked that aspect. Just don’t like cliffhangers.

what fun - a great continuation of the series

I’m mostly a mystery and non-fiction reader, so it’s odd for me to be hooked on an urban fantasy author, or really, an author duo, but I am. So, like half the world it seems, I have been eagerly awaiting Emerald Blaze, the fifth in Ilona Andrews’ Hidden Legacy series (if you don’t count the novella), which was just published yesterday. And the wait was worth it! Emerald Blaze is a lot more satisfying than “middle books” in multi-book storylines usually are, with a central case that gets resolved in this book and some significant movement in Catalina and Alessandro’s relationship. (I don’t want to say too much more about that to avoid being spoiler-ish.) Even the cliff-hanger at the end, presumably there to carry the overall series storyline forward, isn’t too annoying. It lets you know there is more to come, and does raise some questions to ponder, but isn’t going to drive you crazy before the next book comes out. As I’ve come to expect from these authors, the Hidden Legacy world continues to be fleshed out, and the characters have become more developed. I really enjoyed seeing the younger members of House Baylor grow into their adult selves, or at least their a-little-bit-more-adult selves. It was also nice to see their “family” expanding with some close friends and new relationships. I was especially happy with the mini-storyline about how Nevada came to leave her role as head of House Baylor, which was a bit of a shock when it just sort of happened prior to the previous book, Sapphire Flames. That was one of my few minor problems with Sapphire Flames, and suddenly here, in the middle of Emerald Blaze, is a satisfying and in-character explanation. I even feel as if I should go back and edit my complaint about this out of my review of Sapphire Flames! And, of course, as far as the main plot goes, it’s not a secret that there is still a fair amount of Osiris serum floating around out there to cause trouble, and what trouble it is! All-in-all, Emerald Blaze is a fun ride from the first scene to the last. On a practical note – if you are looking to start the series in the middle, with Emerald Blaze, I think it would probably be better to start with the beginning of the series, Burn for Me, and read in order instead - including the novella, Diamond Fire (hint!). The authors do a pretty good job in this book of filling in past history in a natural-seeming way. But there’s just a lot to know about the characters and the world, and besides, the earlier books are great too! I’m now looking forward to Ruby Detonation (grin!), or whatever the next Hidden Legacy book will be - I’m sure IA will do a much better job of naming it!

Read the entire series, it's great

Full of action and churning through the slow burn into a meaningful relationship. Catalina has grown significantly...only issue, it was difficult to get a sense of how much time had passed. Six months from the last book (?), yet Alessandro had time to recuperate from a near death crushed body experience & be back at regular strength? One character grew from a teenager to an adult between Nevada's wedding to now? Maybe I just need a refresher & notes, bc wow, as usual with Andrews, on the world and character building.

    Fantastic as always!

Their imagination and creativity sucks me into their books every time. This is no exception.
