  • Massive

This book is too big to describe. There is anime in here. There is post-singularity SF. There is space opera. But it’s Max Gladstone. You should know by now it’s worth reading.

  • Fun but flawed romp

Fun romp through internet adjacent version of hyperspace, flawed by being very predictable.

  • Reads like bad fan fiction

I picked up this book because it appeared on a lot of best ScFi of 2019 lists. I have no idea why. It is truly awful. It reads like very bad fan fiction. Avoid!

  • More fantasy opera than space opera

I understand the author is a fantasy writer, and this reads more like a reluctant hero fantasy quest than a science fiction space opera. The book feels way too long, and the final twist was too predictable. The vaunted space battles were chaotic and hard to follow. The story is pitched as a feminist sci-fi, but the protagonist is the least interesting/ engaging/ empowered character in the novel.

  • Intriguing concepts; winner from Max Gladstone

Elaborate plotlines and rich characters. Great plotline using time travel narratively without being a tool inside the story. It doesn't get bogged down with jumps throughout time. I like those as much as the next guy, but they can be exhausting. Max Gladstone doesn't disappoint!
