Reading this story after previously reading another prison escape book - The Auschwitz Escape by Joel Rosenberg I can't help but compare. This being a true story and Auschwitz not although based on true facts, I felt total empathy for the characters and their undeserved misery and torture. On the other hand, in contrast, i felt nothing for 'David' in his prison stituation as it was totally deserved. How many years and how many prison sentences does it take for a man to realise its mugs game and life is too short and too precious to gamble with in this way. Is money really more important than freedom. Obviously David McMillan thought so. I wonder if any Auschwitz prisoners would agree? I found this book hard to read because I simply didnt care if David escaped or not. My only slight interest was in how he did it and that came in the last few pages.

Very good read, thrilling right to the end. Now to read the prequel regarding how he started his notorious life :)
